AM Vantage - Cat D warning

I'm currently looking for an early Vantage. One has just appeared on PH classifieds - 2006 car with 37k miles for £29k. Seemed very cheap...way below anything else comparable, so thought my luck might be in.

However, just a warning to anyone else looking - I have just HPI'd it and it came back as Cat D write-off. Not declared on the advert though!

Cheeky. Although, unlikely as it is, sometimes HPI make mistakes. Did you speak to the vendor?

Nope I didn't call him as was late last night when I saw the advert and decided to HPI. Minimal chance it's an HPI error I would say, and even if it was it's not worth my time digging around to try and sort it out. To me the black wheels and painted but chipped grille don't have me sold - though not big issues if it hadn't been accident damaged.

Very cheeky not declaring it in the advert. It looks tatty just from the photos so probably not in the best of conditions. For a little more you could get a really nice example.

Whats with the first 1/3rd of the bonnet? Is it like a protective film, or really bad paint?

There's always a reason when something is too good to be true, I'd rather pay more for a legit one!

To be fair, I suppose the seller may not know. Though why wouldn't you HPI a car of this sort of value before buying?!

If the seller was a bit more adroit at marketing the car, alarm bells wouldn't be ringing in the first place Johnny

Doesn't really wash with a car like this does it when options could add the cost of a Golf to a new car.
I personally would welcome a *slightly* stone chiped etc car as I would worry less about parking it in the street, it would cost me less to buy, and it would end up like that anyway after a year or so of the daily Motorway use it would get. Wouldn't buy cat D on an Aston though as come trade-in it would be vasaline time. Bet it sells though, all the cheap ones on PH do.

It was on Autotrader over the weekend and was clearly shown as Cat D.

Ad is not there anymore though.

I think it's been up for sale for a while advertised as Cat D, it obviously hasn't shifted so he's decided to try and hide the Cat D bit.I still think you should buy it though as it has an optional 'loud exhaust', wtf !
