As a former porsche (997 cab) owner, I still keep an eye on the porsche forum ( whatever anyone says, those 911 rear sears make it the ideal family weekend car for me!).
Is anybody here aware of any similar horror stories with Aston? It seems Porsche are letting themselves go somewhat. It makes me feel that Aston remains a purer drivers/owners brand, I hope that never changes!

Wow - that's quite a tale, the 911 and Cayman are very special cars and I'm astounded the op got stonewalled this way.
To have a car purchased from new and serviced by an OPC surely means the liability (assuming revs within limits etc) rests with the manufacturer. Shelling out big money for a sports car should mean you get premium service, a big turn-off!

Porsche have had a big problem with their engines for some time....from memory it was something to do with magnesium liners ....I believe the problem has only been sorted on their post series 2 911 engines.
We may moan occasionally about our Astons but it is rare to have a catastrophic failure such as an engine rebuild or gearbox.....it’s mainly irritating stuff such as brake problems with the DBS or drained batteries.
There's a lot to be said for the big lumps of fairly unsophisticated engines we have in our cars.....they are reliable

Porsche is now a volume manufacturer managed by accountants who slash every cost to the bone in order to increase profit. They made an error when they released this engine and then cynicaly tried to short change their customers over the issue. However if you look at Mercedes who also went down the cost cutting route, then experienced rust issues and BMW with their floorpan tearing problem on 3 series then you see the same kind of attitude to warranty work. Has this damaged their business? No they go from strength to strength,it seems every other car on the road is a rep spec 3 series or C class. These companies are selling cars on image and past reputation not quality and seem to be doing very well. I don't think they bother about their old core customers, they don't need them now.

I was once in contact with the owner of an M3 who was short changed in a similar manner. Except this time he had a BMW warranty and they still refused to pay out. In the end, from frustration, he made a website called (ultimatedrivingmachine.com) and published his shocking correspondence with BMW. After a few days, BMW shut him down. Threw all their legal power at him and forced him to take the site down.
