Loose chippings

I was unfortunate to drive over a freshly repaired road at weekend. I was gentle at about 10 mph, but it was a reasonable distance. Shortly afterwards as i accelerated up a hill I heard a metallic drumming sound come from what appeared to be inside the car. I thought at first the stereo had switched itself on. It stopped shortly afterwards.

I am thinking it might have been a collection of chippings that had accumulated in the undertray below the engine exiting on acceleration ? It was weird that the sound appeared to be coming from inside the car? Anyone else experienced this.

ps. my usual brake squeal has got worse after this episode and I am guessing a small stone in the disc is the cause.

Car is a 2005 DB9 coupe .

I have had this, too. It's very annoying. It's the sticky, tar coated gravel that is flying off the tyres and hitting the shrouding inside the wing. Probably nothing to worry about unless the gravel flies out of the arches and hits the paintwork.

I get a metallic clanking sound that sounds like some part has fallen off the car and is rattling across the underpan in the engine bay. Seems to happen every couple of months, usually when making a low speed turn. I've chalked it up to a rock caught in the brake shields because I can't find any other cause. Sorts itself out quickly and then can't be recreated no matter how hard I try. Frightening to hear it when it happens, but apparently no harm done.

Yes it frightened the life out of me as i thought part of the engine had fallen off and was been dragged under the car. Not having had a car with a "pan" under the engine before I had never experienced this before, but I guess the chippings is the obvious answer.

It sent a shock to my wallet at first !!
