Anyone had their bumper painted?

...by an AM approved bodyshop? If so could you give me an idea of the price?

I just had a quote from AM in France for 1600€ to remove and paint the bumper of my V8V. Seems a bit excessive. Might be cheaper for me to buy a new bumper in the UK, get it painted and shipped over!

The paintshop I used on my old V8V complete bonnet and blown into the wings was £750.00. That is outrageous...

Its not worth that matey. You need to get hold of one of the firms that prep the cars for the dealers before they put them on the forecourt. The one I used over here charged me less than £300.00 to do my V8V and did an excellent job. Call me an ole sceptic but I bet thats exactly what your dealer would do and just pocket the difference. They will try to tell you they don't use these guys but its bks, they do. I got my contact from an ex salesman!!!! Do you ever come over here with the car?

Thanks for the replies. Confirms what I thought. I bet it would be cheaper for me to buy a new bumper, get it painted Tungsten in the UK and shipped out here.

It wouldn't be cost effective for me to bring the car to the UK, and I wouldn't normally drive there.

Yeah, that's the problem. It's just too far to drive economically otherwise I'd be back like a shot rather than try to get it sorted here where everything is an uphill struggle.

I know a good paintshop in Lyon,you could drive there, leave the car 2/3 days,They will loan you an Toyota IQ(the largest sister of the Cygnet)enjoy the great food in the region and it will not cost you a lot.They have touched up my 9 an fully resprayed the 7 for less than twice the quote you had for the bumper only.

I met with another bodyshop yesterday on the recommendation of a friend. He does a lot of Porsche and Ferrari and he impressed me that he knew his stuff.

I think AM are taking the p1ss with that quote - the bumper removal is a 30 minute job judging by the workshop manual procedure. I can't believe there is £1000 worth of painting necessary.

I hope I'm not throwing good money after bad. If it's poo, I'll try Seb's place !

I had my rear wing painted. AM in Switzerland quoted me 3400 CHF as a part of the door and of the boot lid had to be painted as well. I gave it to a paint shop then. They charged 1800 CHF for the same job, but they told me that painting Aston parts is a pain in the as$. Obviously AMs are polished extensively after the paint job to get a smooths surface. My deales confirmed that painting an AM at the factory alone takes 20h due to the polishing. Only a handful of luxury cars do have this procedure (e.g. Bentley and RR). Even Feraris do not have this done. Anyhow, the quoted price seems reasonable. Also, to have it done properly maybe some other parts, e.g. part of the hood, has to be painted as well.

A standard front bumper is around 700£ plus VAT. Not sure if it comes with the mesh though. Also there are some differences depending if a fron parking sensor is installed or not. Alternatively you can have a look at www.astonmartinbits.com. They always have some used ones in stock.

He doesn't use Dupont. It doesn't seem to be popular at all here. This latest guy uses a spectrometer to get the colour tint just right and has a bunch of cards to get the metal grain size matching.

Not sure they'll do that, or if they did, that you'd be happy with the results... Aston's colours vary by who mixed it on the day, you really need to have the car there to do the painting to get a perfect match!

I tried this when adding a GranSport bumper to my old 4200GT. Nettuno blu both of them, but the bumper was always a shade lighter. It looked quite good like it though, but wasn't correct

to have my front wing and driver door resprayed due to bubling they charged less than 400 euros and for the complete respray of my DB7 plus changing the nose cone,front wing and reshaping the rear wing + air con condenser and radiator it was 3400 euros.And the job was very nice, they also do leather touch up etc...
