Hello

I am new on this forum. I'm from France, and as there are no many forums about AM in our country nor language, I try with pistonheads ! Hope it'll be useful
I bought a '06 V8V 6 months ago, I'm the third owner and it has 38000 km.

From some weeks, I've noticed some condensation in my left rear light. It doesn't seem to disappear, whereas the right one as no problem.

I unmounted it but no way to find a blocked hole or anything.

I wrote on some forums that it could be under warranty from AM, but my car is no more under warranty.

These are my questions :
- would AM change it on a '06 V8V ?
- can I fix the problem (for example by drilling a little hole to enable water to disappear) ?

Thank you very much.

Steph

Hi Steph,

No AM will not cover it / replace it free of charge. Sorry, not taken one apart to know if you can drill holes in it. hopefully someone else here can advise you.'

Steph,
I am french like you and condensation is a very common feature,if your has been bought recently from a main dealer you could ask them to change the lights under warranty, otherwise you will have to live with it or buy new parts.

ok thank you for it, i'm afraid it was the only answer. I bought it from a professional dealer which is not AM.
my problem is that direction lights are going wrong too (on the left side), they only flash once.
for now, it is not a real problem, but when I'll have to do "controle technique", there will be a problem...

Has the car been jet washed recently? Those rear lights are prone to water ingress if you hit them with a jet wash (along the top edge I think...)

It's a design flaw and IMO they should be replaced under warranty but good luck getting AM to agree. Basically, if you direct any sort of jet of water (for example, from a power washer) anywhere near the rear lights for more than a few seconds, they will leak and ultimately fail.

Pull the rear lights out and check the seal.

Or use this opportunity to put some clear rear lights on if that's your thing.

Or get some used rear lights from someone who has just done the former.

Where in France are you?

Is your car right hand drive? Did you also ask about headlights, or am I imagining it? Do you mean that your headlights are the wrong beam pattern for driving in France?

Usually I wash the car with a sponge, and rinse it with a soft flow. Eventually, I used high pressure flow but maybe less than once a month. So I guess it could be the reason.

But as this water entered it, can't it get out ?

I pulled them out, nothing to say about the seal. It is a kind of black glue.
I'd like to fix it, and I like my red lights ! (In case of clear lights, can you change the two small reflector on the rear bumper ?)
I'm in France near Lyon.
My car is left hand drive. I've got no problems with headlights (only the direction light which flashes only once when turning it on in the car, but due to the disfunction of rear's one, I proved it)

OK. I don't think drilling holes is the answer, but might work as a last resort before buying replacements.

Perhaps dry them out, put them back in and avoid directing pressurised water at them in future?

Or, so you meant your indicator isn't working? Just flashing once? Bit odd.

I hope the AM dealer in Lyon is better than the one in Bordeaux for your sake...

If you remove them from the car and let them breath somewhere warm and dry (like inside the house) then that will happen naturally.

I don't recommend using the microwave. smile

I'll try it even if the garage is already dry...
My microwave is not large enough smile

I thought it was always LED lights. That is what I understood when reading the book of the car.
Can it be something else than LED ?

I'm not sure. I *think* that they are all LED, but if it turned out there were bulbs in yours, then you could remove them to aid ventilation.
