Dash trim problem on 2006 Vantage

Hi All…

Firstly I must apologise it anything like this has been posted previously…I have looked I promise!

I recently bought a beautiful 2006 Vantage only 9000 miles and looks and feels brand new, the only problem I have found is a bit of the leather on the dash is coming up and its really annoying me. (See Dash1 pic)

I live in the Middle East and getting things sorted here is a nightmare at times so I looked on line and found a UTube video that nicely details how to fix the problem…..

However the video is not great at showing how to remove the side dash with the air vent on it …I found one screw under the bottom edge of the airbag cover but there seems to be another at the top somewhere still holding it and I don't want to break/bend anything.

Does anyone have a breakdown of how to disassemble the dash so I can get to the offending trim to re-glue it.

That looks promising…I guess its the heat where I am thats caused the glue to fail, the sun is pretty harsh here in the summer! Thanks for the info I will post the results...

It's definitely sun/heat damage, but not unique to your location. Where I live we rarely see temps above 25C and have more than our fair share of dreary skies & rain. The dash on my car (and the instrument binnacle) has the same kind of shrinkage. I seem to recall reading that AM used to use an environmentally friendly glue on those panels and it wasn't up to the job. Planning on getting it dealt with after the summer.

Perhaps Karl-Franz will chime in to tell you where to order a good sun-blocking cover fitted for the windscreen. I'm sure he's mentioned it somewhere.

My covering on the instrument cluster cover has shrunk on one side due to exposure to the sun and, being in the UK, it hasn't had that much sun!

It can be sent off and recovered for around £100 or so. Not sure about other dealers but Grange keep a spare in the service area. So when a new covering is needed they send of their spare, get it covered in the required colour leather and stitching and then swap it for the defective one, which then stays in the service area until another is required.

Sadly the existing cover cannot be stretched and re-glued as it is cut so close to the edge that there is not enough spare leather to pull and glue.

It must have come from a defective cow! Would summarising your post as 'I told you so' be a fair one

LOL. Once you get your leather repaired, you may want to look into getting a sun shield for your windscreen. The one I linked to is the one I own and is VERY well made.

I am glad this has come up as I noticed mine has started to do the same...
I am currently making notes of minor niggles and then will make thorough use of my warranty.......

Sorry mate to be the voice of doom. Your car due to its age will have an Extended Warranty - so this is highly unlikely to be covered.

I fear Neil is correct. My instrument cowl was not covered on my Premium extended warranty. Only mechanical is covered. Having said that, at around £100 to replace I actually thought it was a relative AM bargain

I have the same problem on my 2006 V8V in Dubai, but as with others its the edge of the instrument cowl closest to the windshield. I'm going to speak to some of the car leather experts here to see if it can be repaired, otherwise I may have to order one from the UK.
