I have taken the plunge my V8S is booked into Bamford Rose to have the manifolds , exhaust , clutch and flywheel done . I have made the mistake of telling my supplying dealer what I propose doing. The service guy has told me that the performance gains are impossible to achieve and that I will have oxygen sensor problems which won't be covered under the warranty. AM when I was last there could not see there being any issues. Adrian at BR has been very helpful and has offered to dyno the car before and after the work is done. What I do not understand is why my dealer is so adamant in saying it won't work and trouble lies ahead. Reassure me please.

Because as nice as your local dealer are, they know a lot less than the guys who designed the car?

Don't worry about it!

I guess they also believe they has lost a good customer if you have the upgrades done. Do it and enjoy it.

There are a fair few people on here who will be taking their vehicles to BR only once the Original Warranty expires.

Even a non-posting lurker like Mr G1 wink

Perhaps there is a reason for this? smile

Rob, the gains are there for all to see and there's plenty of graphs out there already - very nice to have your own though!!

Why is your dealer adamant... I'm thinking ignorance and lack of understanding of performance engineering? They have obviously never been under the car and seen how poorly and cheaply designed the manifolds and cats are.

The gains were always going to be there for the people with the skill and knowledge of the car to get them out. The O2 sensor thing is just a red herring, it all gets sorted.

Welcome to the club, will it be done by the weekend? smile

Yeti, car is booked in to be done on the 23rd. Thanks for the reassurance. Looking forward to Saturday night and the drive on Sunday. Wonder if Behr will turn up!

There are things I have been half in mind having done on my GT.

The dilemma is should I do it to a GT?

With only 199 being built should I keep it standard throughout or, upgrade the brakes and exhaust system?

Of course the upgrades WILL make it a better car, but then if it destined to be a future classic etc.. will it hurt the future value / collector status?

What do dealers know? Even if they are good technicians, they are basically swapping bits, not modifying. Mine informed me with great authority that I should be running my V8V on 95RON. rolleyes

Just keep all the old bits - there's nothing that can't be swapped back. Personally I would seek out a car that has had the right improvements done by the right people.

Even the DB4/5/6s getting tarted up at WS; many of them have brake, suspension and engine upgrades, this does not harm the value, just makes the car more driveable and able to survive modern life. A DB7 GT is unlikely to ever be a museum car, but a collectable driver - sure.

I'd say the opposite and keep it standard. I'd actively seek out a completely standard example of such a rare car, but as Yeti says, if you do change anything make sure to keep the OEM bits.

Well the before dynos are done Rob wink

I've been talking to Mike about the plan for my car laugh
We got talking about the clutch and both came to the same conclusion.
I'm not going to bother on mine, even with the extra torque & power, on the basis that;
1) ASM2 does a learn everytime it starts so keeps the set up the best it can be and adjusts it every time
2) There is no "creep mode" to slip the clutch and kill it early
3) Reverse is closer to first so it doesn't slip like the 6 speed box does
4) It's not a manual so no "user error" to wear it out
5) There is nothing to suggest ASM2 has any of the clutch wear issues of the 6 speed box

I don't see the need to do all the extra work to buy it and put it in for a marginal difference in the speed the engine revs up.
I'm going to look at switchable dampers for the same sort of money wink
When the clutch does need doing then I might upgrade it laugh
