Carbon, two tone wheels etc etc
Discussion
Well, I thought I'd start a thread about my V8V that's been in having some work done. A month or 2 back I had a delivery driver give my rear wheel arch a little bit of a kiss, and it was deemed to need a new rear 3/4. Turns out these things take a while to order in.
While it was there I decided to get a few bits and pieces done.
Back to metal respray all round the car (it was a bit chippy on the front and a few other minor dings from car parks etc)
The graphite/silver two tone Vantage S 10 spoke alloys (and a new set of the pilot super sports)
Clear rear lights
Carbon pack inc sills.
Inside -
the metal strips for the door handle both resprayed.
New seat belts - warranty paid for them.
So, why would I do all this work to a 07 Vantage with over 80k on it? Well, I bought privately last winter and even with the bill I've got now for all this, the car stands me in the price of the cheapest 07 model on Autotrader, albeit with more miles. It was a one owner car with perfect history, a motorway commute, and all the big, or small jobs already done.
I've had another 07 V8V as the insurance replacement and despite less than half the miles, it just doesn't drive as well as mine. The interior feels tired, the seat bolster is worn etc. Made me feel more comfortable spending the money on mine.
Also, this reduced the V12V itch I could feel coming this winter. Think it'll be at least one more.
Of course now is the point where I should show pictures, but I don't get the car until the end of the week.
Can't wait to get it back, and I'll value any opinions equally. Apart from any of the negative ones, which I don't really care about
but hey, we all share our Aston stories on here so I thought I'd share mine.
Next I need to speak to the Bamford Rose guys...

sorry not sure I understand your post.....are you asking for opinion on an 80k miles V8V which has very high motorway miles.....if so, then good luck to you and I don’t see why you should have any more problems with it than a car of the same age that has done 30k miles tootling around town......enjoy your car

No, I've no problem with miles, I put as many on as possible, I was just sharing the mods I'm having done, and putting them in context of the car. I'm singing the praises of higher mileage if it's been looked after and the price fits.
I thoroughly enjoy the car, and I thought I'd update a few things to perhaps enjoy it more.

front splitter, rear diffuser, side strakes in carbon, then the N400 side sills. Aston sell it as a pack.
I just don't get the "splitter" (which lets face it, aerodynamically it isn't)The as fitted black plastic one gets scuffed in multi-storeys, on speed humps and if a little bit too careful of keeping your derriere tucked in on kerbs at nose-in car parks.
When it gets broken/scuffed you really do not notice... ever..... unless you are washing the car or trying to negotiate a discount when buying used.
Why replace an £80 piece of plastic with a £££(£) bit of CF that adds nothing other than elevated costs?
If the diffuser (which aerodynamically I'm sure it isn't) floats you boat then be my guest.
If we do anything to our V8V it will be more along the lines of BR than tagging on some bits of CF.
I reckon George may be in agreement on this

Why thank you, I will be your guest. My boat is floated, as I think it'll look lovely. I'm sure George will agree with you too. I have serious doubts whether that diffuser would do anything apart from make the car look worse (imo). I'm no expert in aero on cars (yet
), but I would say it's way too far off the ground to have much effect. It's a posh equivalent of sticking a spoiler on a chavved up Corsa.Lolz at Peter and George
I doubt the splitter splits or the diffuser diffuses but it looks great and distinguishes his car for him.
Like you OP I modified my car instead of keeping the exact same car as everyone else - makes it personal, makes it 'yours'.
George thinks anything other than automatic dark green Volantes (with matching mould) are vomit-worthy and I doubt Peter even knows what colour his car is under that dirt!
Post pics when you're done please

Nope, just ones painted white/matte effect/chrome effect, cars with black wheels or cars with unpainted carbon bolted everywhere
I just think there are better things to do to make your car individual than sticking on non-effective aero bits. Or spend the money on BR manifolds, make it better to drive.

George, I did consider just writing this for you since it was so predictable. Thanks though, your input is appreciated.

thanks Yeti, fortunately your positiveness on here is almost as predictable. Hence why I still like lurking and sometimes posting on here. Photos at the end of the week!

If you bought your aston because (for the price) you couldn't find a faster/better engineered/better handling/etc. car then you've been had. With astons, it's almost entirely about the way they look. astons have better peforming equivalents in every range. I came from a 997 - a darned sight better drive than the v8v I used to have but nowhere near as gorgeous. I'm looking at a DBS at the moment, again, for the money I could get a Ferarri with far better performance characteristics, but I prefer the way the DBS looks. I think adding little enhancements to make your aston look better is probably truer to the ethos than sending it off to bamford rose to turn it into the car it never was (which is also fine).

Don't forget guys, Aston Martin Racing kitted out the N24 with a front splitter before they ran it in the 24 hours at the Nurburgring and subsequent customer cars included it as well.
I know you guys enjoy the "If it's not OEM it's crap" strapline, but the front splitters were employed by the factory for aero benefit in racing applications.

I agree with what you're saying, but my point was (although I put it badly), it's already great in the looks department, why not make it the car it should have been?I also realised that I put or instead of I'd (for some strange reason) in my last sentence which changes the meaning of it completely.

That wouldn't just be a little lip thing though would it? I suspect it would be a lot bigger (i.e. stick out more) and would be closer to the ground?I know you guys enjoy the "If it's not OEM it's crap" strapline, but the front splitters were employed by the factory for aero benefit in racing applications.
