Tax Question

Am I being a bit thick here ?

My nice new V8V is a late 2005 car. I noticed today (well, actually, someone else pointed it out) that the price on the tax disc is £270. I was expect £450+.

I checked on the dvla site and according to them, V8 Vantages don't exist in 2005 !! If I put say a 2011 car then it comes up with £475.

So, is £270 correct or am I missing something ?

I think you are correct, with the 4.3 rising to 4.7 ????

My 07 MY 4.3 costs £450 +

It's all 1st reg date based. I think if you have one registered prior 01/09/06 (or 01/03/06) it's cheaper, then rised to stupid amounts after that.

It says Band K for cars registered before March 2006, so I may well be £270 then.

That's correct ....I pay the same for my 05 DB9 but my 06 0plate golf R32 is £470 !

Stupid bloody tax rules!! Where's the logic in any of that?
And my Fiat Punto probably pumps out. More CO2 than my Vantage given the mileage I do in each. Ridiculous!

It was all implemented after the fact, same as the CO2 gubbins for cars registered after 01/03/2001.

Smart a$$ idea of the labour government I think, so rather than applying it to new vehicles, it was applied historically.

My tax will be only a little less than my service

The tax should be based on usage,, which means taxing fuel not engine size. It works in France.

The govt is debating this at the moment.

I'm wondering what will happen to cars registered after 01/03/2001. Will the tax rate change dramatically?
If considering a car on the border between one tax rate and another it could make the difference between deal or no deal.

+1 in theory but not in practice.

Fuel seems to remain a hot potato as you are effectively placing one tax (vat) on another (duty) which rightly pisses a lot of people off

my V8 Rangey is pre march 06, as is my Vantage ...im not looking forward to upgrading them and doubling my tax bill, so will be driving "old" cars for a while I guess

My 55 plate vantage coupe was registered Dec 2005 and was £270 to tax.

Sold it 5 months ago and replaced it with an 08 roadster, the tax is due next month....£450......ouch !!
