Astons in Gulf Colours

I was invited to ponce around the ROFGO collection today, the largest collection of Gulf-liveried racers in the world, only 11 cars were there out of the 22 in the collection but a couple of familiar faces were seen:








Everyone loved the fact the DBR9 was still covered in its grimy glory from Le Mans, inspired me never to clean my car again either

Also a few Porsches (including the Targa Florio car, my favourite) as well as McLaren F1 and Can-Am, Mirage, Chevron, GT40, Audi and a pair of lively Lola T70s just having a bit of fettling before the Revival.

They started the Can-Am racer up for us, the stats are impressive; 8.5 litres, 882bhp, 812ft/lbs of torque! What a car, can't imagine what it would feel like to drive. Look at those throttle trumpets as well, coolest thing I have ever seen...




In summary a good day out, and I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert. A double-win!

How the hell do you get a day out like that?! I wish I could see a McLaren F1 that close up.. one of my dream cars.

Also, is it just me that's sad the the owner hasn't cleaned them?

You need to get along to the Silverstone Classic next year George. It's amazing what you come across!

All of them are in concours condition except the DBR9 which is exactly as it was when it was released from Parc Ferme - something of a tradition, the EXP8 Bentley I saw years later still with its Le Mans winning grime. Shows how hard the cars worked to get where they were.

All are displayed, they do stuff like Goodwood FofS hill climb and sprint events but aren't raced. Too many hoops to jump through testing components for FIA papers, the guy says it shortens the life of the chassis.

I see, at least there's some logic behind it.

I think it would look better cleaned though
