Importing Vanquish from US?

If I wanted to import a Vanquish from Connecticut what would the potential issues be? I don't mean in terms of shipping, I mean in terms of anything that I'd have to do to it to get UK approval.

Has anyone any experience of this?

Well, first you will have to pay duty and VAT on the value of the car (declared or reassessed if they don't believe you) which might be quite pricey. Yuo also have to pay VAT on the cost of the shipping, too.

If Aston can supply you with a European CoC then you should be able to register it without any trouble. You may have to change the headlights. Since it was originally a car designed for the European market it will almost certainly already be equipped with fog lights.

yes its a non starter VAT at 20% and duty I think would be 5.5%.....so with shipping on a 50k car your looking at a 15k bill !

If you have a specific car in mind, then you could get the VIN and see if a CoC is available for it. Aston might be able to help you. Or if they can't I have used:

AM will provide the certificate of conformity FOC, just ask for the homologation department when you contact them.

Just got my Lhd XK registered in the uk after being on Swiss plates, just needed to pay 20% vat, no duty was required as it's a uk product, dvla needed a certificate from jaguar for co2 etc, that was all, I wasn't asked to change the headlights or the speed gauge to mph though!.

Was it easy to establish the value on which you had to pay VAT?
I wonder if the Revenue just accepted your valuation?

I originally bought the car from r a creamer Kensington, as an export sale, when I brought the car back I just asked them for there valuation, which was accepted.

Interesting that. It seems that with the CoC you might escape the need for an individual inspection. I have also had LHD UK registered cars with speedo and headlights left in original condition.

Interesting about the no duty to pay, though. I'm surprised about that.
