help needed

I have a big anniversary coming up very shortly,I desperately need suggestions for a nice hotel/restaurant where one can dine and wine and then not worry about driving back .
The only criteria is it should be no more than 1.5-2 hours away from home (Manchester) ,something scenic as well would be a bonus.

Without a doubt book a night in one of the village houses at Portmerion, with dinner in the hotel restaraunt overlooking the estuary. Once all the tourist riff raff have left it's very surreal. Food & service are excellent.

A beautiful place and you can take the Aston into the village and do your own version of The Prisoner.

Very scenic too and about 2 hours from Manchester on a good run! Not alot of walkable food choice but the hotel restaurant was excellent when I last went.

Might be a push at 2 hours (depending where in Manchester you are) but very nice.

I was trying to keep under two hours. Was at Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons many years ago chatting to John Burton Race who trained there. When I told him where we had come from he said why? when you have the finest restaurant/hotel in the land on your doorstep. Hambleton Hall It's worth the extra time

I've been to both. One I thoroughly enjoyed. The other we wrote a complaint letter to after multiple ineptitudes (not to mention the shiny shell suited, trainer wearing dick who was texting on his mobile in the restaurant all evening!). I'll not be going back to that one.
