Polished treadplates

Have sent my tread plates off for stripping and polishing, I prefer the old fashion alloy look rather than the modern cabon look, to each their own, will post photos when i get them fitted

They are aluminium so will be hard to maintain a polished surface with out sealing
AM did offer them on the Vantage but I believe withdrew them as they scratched easily
When mine get tatty I will powder coated them then put some venture shield on

Maybe have them chrome plated?

I don't think aluminum chrome plates successfully, unfortunately.

Not at first, if keeping them shiny becomes a major bind ( although I don't see how cleaning your p&j can be a bind) will look at getting them lacquered, but prefer he polished bare ally look tbh, I don't mind a bit of cleaning, my Harley takes enough! , but to me, that is part of the enjoyment of ownership

You can, but you have to plate it in Zinc first I think. It's a fair bit of work but I imagine there's plenty of places that will do it.

Mine has the polished alloy tread plates and personally I think they look the business - really set it off when you open the door.

They have not been a problem, although I am very careful to lift my feet over the plate when entering or egressing the car, resulting in barely a mark since new.

All I do to keep them sparkling is to examine for any pieces of grit and remove, use a very wet microfiber cloth, followed by a clean dry one, then rub RimWax over them. No need to lacquer IMHO, but of course it is personal choice.

Thanks Nick. Not sure about the high gloss on the sill plates but started me thinking.

My last V12V had the factory polished treadplates and they looked great. I was careful with them but I would say they were actually more resistant to scratching than the standard treadplates I had in my previous V8V.

I have the polished door plates, and am always very careful when getting in and out, but there is only so much space to fit a size 12 foot through the door, and I have caught the plate a few times and it is scratched.

If you polish your plates, ventureshield or some other protective film would be a better bet, rather than lacquer. Mine will be anodized, but neither anodizing nor lacquer stand much chance against a heel

I really like the look of those polished plates, anodised would go nicely with my Sarah Maynard bits and bobs. Wonder if I can get the door pulls done as well..? Anyone..?

Had the polished plates on my last Roadster and they marked so easily.As much as they look fantastic they aren't practical IMO

they were only available for about 6-10 mths

Too many replaced under warranty through scratching so AM withdrew them as an option

I loved mine, even though they did pick up scratches easily - agree that ventureshield is probably the best idea for protection
