European E10 Petrol in France

The majority of petrol stations along the A26/A4 were out of E5 95 octane petrol on my last trip to Munich. We alternated between E10 and 98 octane on each refuelling stop. Does anyone know if long term use of E10 petrol (10% ethanol) will be harmful to seals etc in the car's fuel system in the long term? I have been told E10 fuel deteriorates quite quickly if left in the tank for long periods. There are also rumours of E20 petrol becoming available in France.

Any vehicle manufactured after 2001 "supposedly" should be alright.

The seals will perish faster the higher the ethanol content. Whether this means you will see damage within your lifetime is another question.

Even UK fuel contains at least 5% ethanol now. No getting away from the stuff.
