V8V door lock question

Have to admit I'm feeling like a complete numpty posting this, however that's not going to stop me
Not sure if this is a problem or a feature.
I've read the book several times to see how it locks / unlocks. It seems that for reasons I can't fathom, when I press lock on the remote, it will apparently takes 25 seconds to deadlock.
Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. The indicators flash once to tell me it's locking. Sometimes.
The mirrors fold in when I press lock - every time
The book emphasises that the lock button should be pressed ONCE (why? What happens if I press it twice?) but I will obey orders.
So - if it is really locked, then it will flash twice when I unlock.
Am I doing something wrong?
In summary:
Press lock
Mirrors fold in - always
Indicators flash - sometimes
Car locks after 25 seconds - sometimes
Press unlock
Indictors flash twice - always (but only if it was really locked in the first place)
Car unlocks - always (but only if it was really locked in the first place)

Unfortunately it is :-(To the bemusement of my neighbour as I play about with it, it does seem that if I press lock (every time accompanied by a convincing "click" from the car as normal central locking) - until I get the indicators to flash then it is indeed locking - in fact it locks right away on second or subsequent attempts rather than the daft 25 second "I 'll think about it"
A nice cool San Miguel is giving me the eye so briefly....
When I lock the DB9 (why would you want to press the lock button twice anyway) I get the powerfold mirrors as you do with a wink from the lights....20 seconds or so later the deadlock kicks in.
I always assumed this to be normal.
Now, where´s that beer?

Normally I wouldn't press twice, but unless it flashes the lights, it ain't going to lock before hell freezes over, although it always folds the mirrors first press. It seems repeated attempts (only) until the lights flash are required - then it will deign to lock

Interestingly I've seen this also, my mirrors would always fold, but the indicators would not always flash. Oddly this disappeared once my car was detailed recently, the only thing I can think is that the windows were "sticking" slightly on the little "up" they do when the door is closed and that was enough for the door to think it wasn't fully closed. It's been right as rain since then.

Thanks to both above - I'll certainly try new batteries (would be nice!) & check the windows too.One little bit of info in return - having had mercedes AMG SL55 for the last few years - they are beset with issues in relation to the "vario" roof making creaks, squeaks & cracks - all caused by rubber seals sticking to the painted panels against which they seal and causing all sorts of noises when the seal moves. A product called Krytox - bought in an eye dropper sized bottle - is absolutely brilliant for restoring flexibility to rubber so as I have some, I'll treat all window seals.
Again, thanks to all & hopefully, I can start to contribute in due course as I learn about the car!

d just to close this one off - took it to the local dealer - the driver's door latch is the culprit - needs replacement (thank you warranty company) as does a lambda sensor (ditto) and as I had whined direct to AM about the multi textured mirror supports - they have agreed to replace both (although I have to pay fitting) so not too bad a result
