Door latch on the way out?

My passenger door has developed an intermittent problem recently. It won't always open from the outside. You pull the handle and the window drops slightly but the door just won't open. You can open it from the inside no problem and once you have done that it will open from the outide. Does this sound like a door latch on the way out or do they just fail completely?

The other possibility is that something is not quite right with the connections within the door as it was recently stripped for paint work.

Sounds like a problem with the cable. Faulty latches always open from the outside, they just fail to lock with the remote fob.

That's good news as Aston have agreed to rectify free of charge if there is a fault with the connections as they did the paint work.
