Squeaky brakes - cure or coincidence??

I've read on here a few times about the vantage suffering from squeaky brakes and have myself, on occasion, noticed this unpleasant noise from time to time.

In another thread recently, I posted up a pic of a new 4hp vacuum / blower which (my neighbour slaughtered me for by the way) I use to blow dry the car with. Well ever since I've been blowing the wheels dry it's occured to me that I've not heard the brakes squeak at all.

Coincidence?? Maybe. But if this is a cure then this is a simple solution to an otherwise pain in the 'arris.

Did they squeal under braking? Or all the time? I've noticed mine squeaking all the time. It's an annoying high pitched eee-eee-eee noise. Oh well, in a couple of years I'll be too old to hear it.

Mine squeaked so loud it was embarrassing in built up areas. I whipped off the wheels and removed the callipers which have only a couple of bolts retaining them and liberally applied some copper grease to the rears. This seems to have knocked the worst of the noise on the head, with only a light squeal left which is intermittent, probably dependent of brake temps.

Not too hopeful this is a permanent solution. I am sure driving in the rain will quickly wash a way the grease.

Pure coincidence IMO. You are probably just blowing some excess brake dust away from between the callipers which may be helping, however that's probably it.

Either way, you shouldn't have to blow dry your wheels to stop embarrassing brake squeal - just get the pads swapped out to an after market set and be done with it - that's what I did.

Just a squeal under braking. Really annoying to the point where I'd brake by down shifting and then simply swerve around the car in front!! I'm a bit anal about keeping the vantage in top top looking order, so don't mind getting the blower out: but can understand others on here just changing the pads and done with it. All I can say, my brake squeak has dissapeared since using the blower.

Hate to break it to you (no pun..) however I think you are stuck with the noise (and pad choice) on the V12V due to the carbon rotors. Makes it near impossible to find a pad that works as normal compounds would fall apart on those discs. And also, you will probably find it's the carbon discs that are making the noise, not the pads.

If you really want to try something new however, find a shop that supplies carbon rotors and get them to check the fitment/dimensions of your calipers. You may find that other carbon pads (i.e. porsche, ferrari, lambo) fit and therefore maybe worth a try. I wouldn't try anything wouldn't thorough investigation though as messing up those discs won't be cheap!

Pads should not be different for either carbon or steel disc. Well on Ferrari and Porsches it is unheard of!

I use either Pagid RS19 or RS29 on my CStradale or my ex-997.1 GT3 RS carbon discs as do most owners. These Pagids are "normal" compound and are commonly used on steel discs as well.

I complained about the squeaking and the dealer fitted replacement pads of a different compound that Aston specified.

I stand corrected - would have thought the material would rip away. Strange that the Aston pads for V12V's are three to four times more than the V8 pads, even though it's 6 v 4 pot I guess.

Our brakes squeaked until the last service when Trinity put some copper slip behind the new pads.
It's been lovely and unsqueely since.
