Clunking noise when stationary

Hi, I've noticed sometime when I'm stationary, either in gear or in park, that I sometimes get a metallic clunking noise coming from underneath the car. It sounds a little like someone tapping the undertray with a light hammer. It only does it once and then seems ok.

Ive seen a similar thread on the AMOC site that it could be the locking pin on the gearbox engaging and that it's normal but that doesn't make sense if it is still in drive. I've also had many other manufacturers auto's and none of these have done it.

Anyone else experience this? Any ideas?

May help others determine what it maybe, could be if you could say whereabouts you think the noise is coming from, which area of the car?

(front, middle, back, left or right etc)

Good point. Somewhere around the centre/maybe slightly rear of centre. I can almost feel it under my seat but not quite. Sorry to sound vague but it's difficult to be precise.

pretty sure its the AC unit engaging/disengaging from the drive belt. all three of my previous Astons have made the same noise.
