My boot open light came on today and stays on. When investigating I found that one of the bits in the tailgate is extended (photo1) causing the problem. Photo2 is the other side where you can see it's retracted and ok.

Anyone else had this problem? I assume it will need a new bit although I'm not sure why one is extended and the other is not, the one that is extended seems spring loaded but the other one isn't.

Quite a common problem. A new pair costing less than ten quid will solve the problem. They just unscrew.

Thanks - I was able to retract one by screwing it in, the other one I removed and it seems the spring has gone so I guess this will need replacing.

Does anyone know where the boot open sensor is as I expected that with both these 'stops' retracted that the boot would close properly but it doesn't, the boot open light remains on. Only if I push and hold down the tailgate do the boot lights go out and boot open warning go off. I suspect the sensor is in the lock mechanism.

Perhaps this is a sign as I've been thinking of changing the car for a while and this gives me an excuse to finally get to the local AM dealer and contemplate changing smile
