Greetings all, I recently picked up a 2009 DBS in Casino Royale - amazing car!
However, I did notice some light scratches on the aluminum gear knob. Is there a way to polish or buff these out?
I also noticed the knob gets extremely hot due to being metal on a hot day.
I saw an Astonmartinbits a new gear knob goes for 450 pounds.

Thanks Tony, I do want to keep the stock DBS gear lever. How did you polish yours? With what material?

removed it...and used industrail polishing mop i own at my factory....but you should be able to take it to any chrome plater or any plater and they should have the same equipment...you have to sand out the dents and scratched and then polish to shine....

I've wondered about this too. It's a satin finish on the knob though, right? I don't want to put a mirror shine on it.

Here's a question you obviously know the answer to...

How is the DBS shift knob removed?

centre console removal....
under back of centre concol small sprunk leather clad bit...prise it off and underneath 2 x torque screws.....2 more screws at front under cup holder rubber matt....slide whole thing forward , and lift gently...remove the connecting wires for the usb and i pod connection....you will then see 2 x screws holding ali plate in place....undo and lift gently....pulling it gently towards rear of car....push down onto gear lever and twist left...or right in your case?....lever lifts off...remove connecting wires from lock and boot release , and cig lighter connection...whole thing should come away...

the invoice is in the post....

Just take your time, don't drop any screws and make sure you have the correct tools before you begin. Oh, and I can vouch that Tony's knob looks very shiny. At least the one he supplied me is.

Sorry for reviving such an old thread but I'm hoping Tony can give me a little help. I'm a big fan of your work and have your knobs and sill plates on my DB9.. Such nice work.

I have a DBS knob installed in my car that I bought second hand from AM Bits. It has a few pretty nasty scratches too. I took it to a plating and polishing company and they were concerned about working on it because of the possibility of damaging the little shift pattern insert.

My question is can that be removed for polishing then reinstalled in the knob? I contacted my dealer trying to just buy a new glass cover for the insert and of course it's not sold separately from the knob :/

Any help would be greatly appreciated.. I'd love to have my knob polished smile

Bit tricky getting it out.....it is just stuck in...hairdryer and some gentle persuasion it should come out , but what's wrong with sanding and polishing it?.... Just mask it up....

That's what I thought too.. Why not just mask it off? I guess I'll try a different polishing business. Unless I can send it over to you for a mirror polish and clear coat? Interested in the business? Car is in dry dock till spring anyways..

Lovely, go along to some factory and ask the receptionist if she can polish your knob.

Everyone likes their knob polished.
