12V power source for Tomtom satnav project

My installation of a touch screen TomTom VIA 1605 satnav is almost complete (details to follow). However, I've run into a glitch with the switched power supply. I tapped into a 12V power source that is switched on immediately when the key is in position II. The problem is that it takes a few seconds for the satnav screen to rise up out of the facia. By the time this happens, the Aston Martin logo that appears on the TomTom startup screen has timed out and does not appear once the screen rises.

Does anyone know where I can tap into a delayed 12V power source that is switched on by key position II ? The audio screen on my premium sound system seems to have a delayed power on. However, I've had no luck locationg the delayed source of that 12V signal.

Any ideas?

p.s. The TomTom is light years ahead of the OEM system!

You may want to pm paralight he may well have the answer.

Failing that I would have thought a relay timer module which are available from electronic stores. They have adjustable time delays and will then switch a relay to give you your desired effect.

Am also looking forward to seeing the results of your endeavour, expect an avalanche of requests for information.

I'm guessing there's no way to hook up the joystick thing to a tomtom, and the thouchscreen might be hard to reach, but probably still an improvement.

Personally I wouldn't worry about the AM log, it only shows itself rarely on my OEM in any case.

Sounds like a good project, I always admire people for being brave enough to do this type of thing!

I would use a micro controller. Came across this though, which sounds like it'll do the trick:
