new DB9 top speed!

hello every one,
was looking at the "new" DB9`s pics and specs on AM website, iv noticed that top speed on the new DB9 is 183mph!.
i thought that was strange, the older ones had top speed of 186-190mph depending on spec and year.
183mph is the same top speed as the new vanquish II, and less than the DBS wich has the same engine and had a top speed of 191mph
so the the new DB9 is slower than the older one, the vanqish II is slower than the DBS wich is slower than the origenal Vanqish.
did the older models have optimistic top speed and the new ones are more realistic?
any way, i like the fact that AM are just updating there lineup rather than overhauling it, eveing if the naming is bit confusing.
I wish if they offerd the new DB9 with a 6speed manual, it would be like a facelifted DBS

Forget the top speed stats (on every car)
It's all about the in gear speeds (ratios selected by AM) and the torque curve if you are worried about stats
AM are practised masters of the model range tweak so don't try to dissect it beyond Grants book

As I wrote in the new Vanquish thread a while ago, the top speed is limited because of the Touchtronic auto box. Also in the "old" DB9 and DBS, the top speed is lower in the TT2 cars, than the manual cars, and since the new cars are NOT available with manual gearbox anymore, this is one of the side effects (look at the detailed specs, and you see the different vMax of TT and manual cars).

Indeed, however: when it stays this way, I will enjoy it every time on the German Autobahn while passing a new DB9 or Vanquish, because my manual will go 10 km/h faster!

Furthermore, the faster Aston is just going to be ridiculed by a Nissan anyway !!
Perhaps I'm just weird but driving the Aston has always been about the experience for me. Indeed, it's the only car I've driven in which I'm happy waiting lights

Of course an Aston can be enjoyd at the traffic lights also, and even in traffic jam! Furthermore, the faster Aston is just going to be ridiculed by a Nissan anyway !!

In Germany (40 minutes from my home) it is very common to drive long periods of time on the Autobahn with speeds well above 250 km/h, so yes, then top speed is not only a theoretical thing and can give the Aston experience another dimension!

I would love to own a V12V or a DBS but on neither occasion would it be for their top speed capabilities

Sadly car reviews seem to focus on top speed and 0 - 60 times then decide which car is better based on the results. Or at least they place far too much emphasis on them anyway!

not complaining about top speed, had a rapide and sold it and ever hardly exceeded 180km/h, and never said anything about the capability of AM engineering, I was pointing out a fact which is usually the other way around, and no I'm not after one [DB9]. Personally it matters not the top speed of any car if the person behind the wheel isn't competent or confident enough to utilise the power they have under foot. It's nice to know that you have a high top speed but in all honesty how many of us are going to achieve it safely, I'll give it a good go in a straight line or under controlled conditions and with a little more tuition I'm sure I'll get the best out of my Aston as I will my own capabilities, but FFS lets not get so hung up on top speeds. I love driving mine just as much wafting and swanning about the country lanes enthusiastically as I do thrashing it down a near empty motorway.

I suspect that the car has much larger downforce and better lift balance than the old form utilising both the Virage front bumper together with the DBS decklid.....which would likely help to produce some improved lap times but a slightly lower ultimate top speed. Does anyone know if a Cd figure is quoted?.............either that or it's just a bit of Marketing spin to make sure that the cheaper car doesn't go faster........... FF
