Just wanting some thoughts on this...

I purchased a brand new set of 10 spoke diamond turned wheels from AM dealership and have now decided i would actually like the graphite version instead! This is as a result of playing with the configurator!
I guess i have 2 options, sell the new wheels and buy the graphite ones, or have these powder coated?

My instinct says i would be better selling these and buying the others but not sure how much cash i would end up throwing away for the 70 miles i have done on them!!

What would you guys do... Is there a good second hand market for AM wheels?? Would powder coating them look the same and last as long etc? I have no idea!
Here is a picture of the wheels i have and then a picture of the ones i want...

Thanks ..
if you go to a good wheel refurber, the type that you take your car into and they take the wheels off rather than the home visit type, they should be able to do a very good job of painting for no more than £100 per wheel

It'll probably cost you 80 per wheel to get them refinished as you'd like - you can even get something slightly different to Aston if you want to, mine are painted a patricular grey they don't use. This is by far the least hassle and the least cost as well.

Your wheels, 70 miles only or not, are now second hand, they're worth half what you paid!!

A couple of months ago, I was quoted £3300 including VAT for a set of sports pack wheels.

I also enquired about the wheels in anthracite and was quoted a staggering £1300 + VAT per wheel.

Get your powder coated !

Even by main dealer standards, that is far and away the stupidest thing and biggest rip-off I have ever heard. My 20" DBS wheels were painted in grey and re-diamond cut, execatly the same as anyone would do, think it was 350-400ish for the lot. Bear in mind Aston would sub it out to the local wheel-monkeys anyway.

Disgraceful mad

I had mine done at the wheel specialist in Birmingham....
I took loose wheels with tyres, so they had to remove tyres, repair 1 damaged wheel, then strip and powder coat all 4, refit tyres etc...

Cost was less than £300 and they were done in 1 day...... Mine are charcoal, and are quite dark.... They had "Gunmetal" which was lighter, and it was a toss up with which finish I went for....

I've just had my sisters MX5 wheels done in a chrome finish.... Loose wheels without tyres was £172... For all 4... And that look greatsmile

Thats pretty much what i paid for the wheels from the dealer... Not cheap at all, but i purchased some winter tyres which have been put on my original wheels and so needed a new set for the summer tyres.

I will look into local powder coating and see what prices i get back ..

Can't really see from the picture - is the whole wheel painted/coated, or painted/coated and then diamond cut to give a machined face (like mine) that is not shiny?

The diamond cut is exepnsive, but still 80-100 per wheel.

I'm still utterly outraged at that quote of 1300 per wheel! furious

Its graphite coated and then diamond cut face.
The picture is tricky to see but pretty much every part of the wheel excepet the face is graphite grey. It blends in with the meteorite paintwork really well and i just think it looks a little more modern and aggressive.
Saying that.. after a few miles i guess brake dust will do the job for me! smile

Above said before, the advantages to brake-dust-grey wheels are obvious wink

Just wipe the outer edge of the spokes over once an hour (Mikey when at home) or once every 18months (me) smile

Thats the V spoke isnt it? .. AM did offer me those at about half the price of the 10 spoke. No idea why the prices vary so much, there is even more alloy in the V spoke!

Yes, it's the V spoke with silver face and graphite the rest.

I think the ones you have look lovely, but so do mine and I'd struggle to justify the extra price. But if I did, I'd make sure I got the ones I wanted wink Good luck getting what you want.
