Vantage over bumps.

Hi all
I have owned my Vantage for 3 months now, I still absolutely love it! I have always felt the car to be a little jittery on the back end when going over bumps in the road, if I go over a manhole cover or similar it feels like the back of the car hops slightly to one side, nothing to dramatic but certainly noticeable. The Vantage is a 2006 with 24000 miles, it has full Aston history and was serviced just before i bought it. The tyres are in excellent condition and pressures are correct. I feel silly asking but is this a normal handling characteristic of the Vantage?

If I accelerate hard and hit a bump, manhole or raised piece of repaired road it also does the jumpy jitter!

Tyre pressures?
Shock absorbers?
Geo Check?

Hard to say without actually feeling it... but if I hit something as you describe, I'd expect a firmly sprung, torquey RWD car with wide tyres to skip sideways slightly. That's the nature of the beast, as it were.

If it feels dangerous, then a geo check is peace of mind for 100 quid.

I don't seem to have that problem, but I have a 2009 without the sports pack, so it may behave differently.

Just reread the original post. My geo is bang on and whilst my car does jolt slightly if I accelerate into a lump in the road it doesn't skip sideways. Sideways sounds not good.

How about age of tyres. May have tread but if they original (that would be impressive at 24k but maybe a genuine one careful old lady driver lol). Or shocks, geo etc as others have already said.

Mine is a 2010 with sports suspension, and it will step sideways if I hit a bump mid-corner, with plenty of throttle, but its dead straight if I do the same thing on a straight. Both exactly what I'd expect.

I'd start with a check of your tyre pressures if yours is stepping to the side on a straight.

If it shimmies just a couple of inches, they all do it for the reasons yeti notes. Those not getting it either have nice smooth roads or don't press on enough

It shouldn't need corrective lock unless you're being a proper goon. If it does, there's possibly something amiss.

On my daily drive home there are two manhole covers that always cause this to happen. They're placed perfectly for the apex of a corner.
