Door mirror brackets

Does anyone know what these are painted / coated with? I need to remove mine and get them re-done as I can see that there are bubbles forming underneath the coating

I don't think that I can afford Chartwells to do the brackets - Really annoyed that AM are incapable of getting the coating on these brackets right first time as it's not rocket science

If you’ve taken them off the car Nigel, surely you could take them anywhere competent.

I would have thought powder coating them has got to be the best way.

They do look awful when the coating comes off..... Fortunately mine are still fine, but there's a chap that lives over the road with a V8V the same year and miles as mine, and his are completely shot, and really spoil what is otherwise a nice car...such a shame that in this day and age AM couldn't get the coating right...

Anyway I digress, if ever I have to do mine, I'll be inclined to remove them, give them a good clean with a wire brush or such like, and then paint with POR-15.....I used this stuff on my TVR chassis, and its still going strong, I also used it on the V8V brake hubs, and again it looks perfect.

Not hard at all is the answer. Mine went from a stone chip and as they are an ally casting, once the water is under the coating the ally corrodes and forms a white dusty powder which nothing will stick too. I just cleaned mine up and then wrapped them in carbon effect. Total cost about £20 and a couple of hours of my time and they looked better than when they were new.

Mine were not even stone chipped, just poor preparation or priming before painting/coating.
I will search out a workshop manual, then get them properly shot blasted, primed and powder coated

I have the manual for my (ex) DB9. I would imagine that the fixings/sequence would be near identical for you V8V. Ps you'll need some Torx sockets.

I did them on my 9 a few months ago. You have to strip the door panel off to unplug the electrical connection but not a difficult job. Cleaned them up and painted them with 3 or 4 coats plasti-kote satin black. Look as good as new.

Did mine by removing mirrors, disassembling, cleaning up, priming, spraying and finally flicking paint on with a tooth brush to give the finish they come out of the factory with. This was an experiment as I was prepared to take them down Chartwells if it didn't come out well but I was more than happy with them so put them back on the car.

Was it easy to remove the door panel to access the inner bracket fixings?

I rubbed mine down in situe (carefully) Masked the car and mirror, primed and sprayed with a mat hammerite.
They look as good as they did before the corrosion. Took about an hour each side.

Try this before taking the doors to bits as you know something is going to rattle afterwards!
