Advice required - To extend warranty or not?

Hi all
Just want to gather some thoughts on extending the Aston warranty.
My baby turns 5 years old at the end of the month (under Aston warranty from new).
It had been up for sale as I had a property purchase going through, which now has now subsequently fallen through. I have taken the car of the market privately but it is being marketed by an independant dealer to help any potential purchasers with finance, p/x etc. as we will most likely consider another property now our minds have been made to move.
It's a roadster so I think the chances of selling over the next few months are slim, without giving it away which I don't want/need to do. The car is being stored for winter by myself so will not be used much.
I have the option to extent the AM warranty and maintain Premium Cover (which now covers things like the Sat Nav as well), as long as I do it before the car turns 5. The car was serviced at Aston recently and given a 100% mechanical pass - no advisories.
If the dealer does not manage to sell it for me in the next few weeks, I will most probably look to sell the car come March/April time next year privately.
Is it worth me extending the warranty considering its not going to be used much over winter and has recently been passed fit by Aston or will I struggle to sell a £40k+ car without a warranty next year, albeit it will only have about 6 months left (and I would have paid for it to sit in my garage for 6 months!)?

I wouldn't bother if the cars just going to sit there for 6 months. Also, wrt premium warranty. Are you sure they cover the Nav/DVD etc?? Last tune I checked ypekectruaks were covered but the entertainment stuff was not. To me the only difference between the premium and regular warranty is that theckesser one has an 8k cap on each claim - no big deal unless your entire engine needs replacing (how likely is that??!!). From a resale perspective I don't think anyone's going care that much about which warranty it has, as long as its official Aston (unless you're really unlucky and cine across a real pedant of a buyer). If youre selling bext year, your buyer will apprecuate a full 12mth warranty rather than a half expired one So, if it were me, I'd just tuck her into bed for now.
For selling on to a private buyer i would say its going to help a sale come along.
For selling through a dealer i wouldnt bother as they will offer this to a new buyer anyway.
If you are going to hold out for a good price and may keep it for most of the next 12 months anyway, i would extend it.
I extended mine for 2 years (thats how long i thought i would keep it before changing) plus I got a better price by doing 2 years at once so it made sense to me? You only need one nasty surprise to cover the cost.

I wouldnt bother, its just dead money, it wont add £1500 to the value of the car
mine has been out of warranty for 3 years now and will get traded in next year, Im not anticipating anything other than low book price for it from a dealer, so I certainly wont be spending thousands on making it perfect for them

Hmm, I think that 5 - 2 in favour to not extend - interesting.
I'm sure the general consensus is normally don't buy one without warranty but I do agree it will probably be dead money in my case, especially as it was recently passed 100% fit. I'll probably ask the dealer to complete a warranty ending car check to see if anything needs doing.
I suppose I've BR to complete any works if anything did crop up in the future.
For reference guys, the Premium warranty is under going some changes this year - it will now cover things like the entertainment centre - nav, hifi, etc however they are cutting back on paint/corrosion claims, so if you need anything of that nature doing I would get on your dealers back.

How will we tell the difference! Stopped paying for any Aston Warranty when they wouldn't pay for their obvious paint defects. Where they do the 60:40 split and make out they are doing you a favour, it would be cheaper to go to a decent bodyshop and pay for it all yourself.kashn said:
Why not offer to put warranty at sale time. That would give a private buyer the ultimate confidence or it can be used as a bargaining tool.

Would be the best suggestion (at buyers cost!) however this can only be done whilst the car is still under existing warranty. Once it goes out of warranty it cannot go back on the Aston (car care) warranty.HTH

Where they do the 60:40 split and make out they are doing you a favour, it would be cheaper to go to a decent bodyshop and pay for it all yourself....every panel on my car has some paint bubbling (6 years old now, ive had it 5 years) but at best a dealer said I would get 1/2 paid at their bodyshop...which is 2x as expensive as most others anyway
so in other words I have to pay £4K to respray my own 6 year old car thanks to paint defects .....great
anyway, will just trade the car in with a dealer and they can sort their own warranty claim out as a private buyer isnt going to want it.....
hence I dont bother with the warranty....the car is mechanically sound, most issues are wear items and excluded anyway...youd have to be pretty unlucky for a major mechanical failure. Save the £1500 a year for a new clutch, discs, tyres etc etc
Personally id sooner see that a car had a recent clutch, discs etc than a £1500 worthless extended warranty (which is not the equivalent of the new factory warranty at all)

AM Hagley offered to put warranty on my dB9 if I had the service and inspection done by them. It would have been the standard warranty as my car is now 7 yrs old. Most buyers I would have thought most buyers are only interested in if the car comes with warranty or not and not necessarily if its the premium/standard one.bogie said:
