Camera Alert App

Without swimming with the sharks in the general PH populace, does anyone on here have any experience of camera locator apps on android, good or bad?

Btw, I'm sure you never break the speed limit Peter so why do you need an app? Also what happens when you lose signal? Might not be the best thing to rely on!

Used to have TomTom on the phone, had cameras on it and could pay a yearly subscription for updates including cameras. Obviously none of the Android Apps are going to show / warn about mobile cameras.

Probably need one myself - on a Speed Awareness course this Friday - have I mentioned that before?

Only works if soemone posts on their website about a mobile camera. Not like a radar detector.

And radar detectors are now confirmed as legal for the remainder of this governments term of office.

I much prefer a detector, it doesn't give you all those rogue alerts for empty camera boxes, places where there was a mobile camera two years ago etc.

And the real bonus is that you will know from the detector when the camera box is empty, so you can take that opportunity to overtake whilst everyone else slows down for the box. Around me there is about one camera for every 5 boxes, they just move them round occasionally

I've just bought a road angel gem, check it out.

I have just had a speed awareness course.

No points yet though, and the above might help me stay that way.

EZCam works great on Android. Up to date lists including mobile.

I tried CamerAlert app which was ok but it was a pain to use each time, always seemed to say I was out of date and powering up the phone because it drains the battery pretty quickly. I wanted a laser detector because I was fed up wondering if I had been going just too fast and waiting two weeks to see if an invite to a speed awareness course was on the way. I bought a snooper 3zero which is both a GPS fixed camera warning and a laser detector. Its been great and even picked up a hand held laser on the M1 around a bend! As the manual says the laser bounces off cars in front and I got a warning about half a mile before I saw the man in a van. There is an annual fee for updates but its made me a bit more relaxed already. I appreciate it not fool-proof but its a help.

I use CamerAlert on an old ipod touch without any issues, seems to be accurate. I just sold my Origin B2 which was brilliant but pricy at £50 year for subs, the fact it was cradle mounted was a real bonus.

I have used it for many years. They have an Android App also so you can have it on a sat-nav and your phone at the same time. The Database updates direct to the phone so no need to connect to a PC in any way to import new databases.

Works very well with some nice features.

Pocket GPS' database is the best but their app is crap. EZCam is a better app and it can use Pocket GPS' database.

I have driven all over the country and through 6 or 7 countries in Europe using CamerAlert and if you loose phone signal it still works as you can still get a GPS signal. You may lose the map but it still gives you warnings of up and coming camera's.

Not sure what the problem is with updates, they are usually once a week and take but a few seconds whilst you warm up the engine. Sure it uses battery life but plugging it into a charger is no effort especially if you have a cradle.

Sure it cannot know which cameras are working or when there is a mobile unit around corner. But given the size of the database and the fact plod tend to go to same places time and time again, your going to be told of 90% + of all mobile sites.

As a cheap efficient way of avoiding practically every camera on the roads I rate this as a low cost solution. Plus you can run it on three devices for one fee and if you find a new camera you get a year free.

I thought if you submitted a "NEW" camera site and it was accepted you got a FREE "LIFETIME" membership.
