I am about to test drive, and hopefully pick up, my first Aston (2009 MY Vantage). Nervous as hell, but hoping this is a good decision.

One issue is the glass ECU key which has been dropped and so has a chip on the edge. Is it possible to repair these, or are replacements reasonably priced?
Also, don't suppose anyone has a spare case for one of these kicking around that they no longer require?

many thanks

Can you not ask for a replacement as part of the sale?

Replacements are circa £400 if I remember correctly. I think the dealers may be able to swap the outer case keeping he existing workings. Suggest you look on e-bay for caes. Again your dealer may have one in a draw somewhere. They are about £50 new . New cars do not come with key cases.

Thanks. Car is not from AM dealer, so restricted there.
An expensive thing to damage so will be careful going forward, and maybe worth the £50 for protective case. I guess I will need to get used to the cost of ownership of this sort of car.

To mange expectations a whole glass key replacement comes to approximately £1400.

Hopefully someone can supply the specifics but the key breaks down to the component parts, of glass, metal, electrical parts and then the dealer will charge you to tune the key to the car.

At least it's opportunity to reduce the sellers price. Plenty of others out there which have perfect keys for the reasons above.

When I got my 9 it had no glass key with it - apparently the previous oner had kept/lost it. It was not from an Authorised dealer but they do sell quite a few Astons and came up with a glass key for me that my local dealer programmed for me FOC.

When I collected my vantage from the dealer he said dont drop the glass key as it costs a fortune to replace! But, he said, if it gets chipped a jeweller may be able to repair it. I guess they can smooth out a chip, at least it would be worth asking.

Mr AM,

If a replacement key is £310 here http://astonmartinbits.com/search?search=glass+key...
, surely the dealers aren't charging £1100 to programme it. How do you get to the £1400 figure?

I seem to recall there was a posting a while back saying that the price on the keys had halved, which might go someway to explaining.

Some Aston Martin trivia for you Steve.

If the car you are looking at is an early Model Year 2009, it will probably have two plastic keys, one glass key and one manual key (used to open the door in the event of a flat battery).

The reason for two plastic keys, was that the glass keys were not manufactured in time, so were delivered to the new car buyers later.

My own glass key is still perfect. Have not used it since being told the replacement cost!

Sure that you will enjoy your test drive. Wonderful cars.

£700 + vat so £840 for a complete key....the £310 part is just the glass part...you still need buttons, frame and inner parts.....and programming
