The new Virage, thoughts
Discussion
Where do people think the Virage will sit in Aston History?
On sale new for only around a year, most S/H are still in the hands of dealers asking £90k+. When the new Vanquishes (which I like) and DB9s start to get on the S/H market will they be so much more attractive as to make the Virage much less sort after or will it gain some uniqueness due to it's low sales numbers?
Was its just a development "mule" to test out some of the much needed new tech that has gone into the newer cars.
Not sure what I would think about their short life in production if I had purchased a new one last year even though I'm sure they are splendid cars.

They are indeed splendid cars David. I would love to have one....at the right price.
Clever marketing may bestow 'limited edition status' on this model but to the people who follow the marque it will probably be regarded as a mistake.
There was never any need for a GT model between the DB9 and the DBS unless they were targetting a specific market niche ie the Rapide.
Smacks of them hedging their bets and being indecisive over the future of the DB9 at that time

I think we have to remember that in time, all the differences us anoraks talk about between the different models/model years will mostly be forgotten - only the key ones make much of a difference - the rest will surely be referred to as 'gradual improvements of suspension, gearbox, handling, etc'
Also, I can't see people looking back in 15 yrs time and overly worrying about whether a big V12 lump in an Aston 2+2 GT has 470 or 510 bhp
So I think in time, the Virage will simple be referred to as the car that bridged the gap between orignal DB9 and 'new DB9', with a secondhand price somewhere inbetween the two - I can't see why it would have a 'scarcity premium' when it offers nothing in equipment or looks that 'new DB9' does not other than a badge at the back plus of course, it has less torque & power

I was out for a spin around Cheshire yesterday in my DB9 with my boys and as it would happen I passed Wilmslow, can't not stop to be nosey especially with my boys in the car. There is a gorgeous DB5 in the showroom, my lads were loving it, I want the new Vanquish, but that 'aint going to happen any time soon, I had a look around the others and of course who couldn't love a DBS it would seem like the natural progression, but having had a good shufty around the Virage I must agree I do like it and its lines, a little more aggressive than mine and would love to go from my DB9 to one, it's very similar to the new DB9 other than the bootlid, so yeah I'd like one very much.
Didn't look that hard at the new DB9 and Virage similarities to that degree Phil , I may have done had they been side by side, but as I can't afford the new 9.......can't afford the Virage for that matter I know I'd have a Virage given the opportunity

i think they will, exactly the same way they do now about the older V8's with the vantage model, the same as with the vanquish s and a normal one.people love any difference their car has over someone else's to the point of hilarity at times but they still do it. those cars will also sell at a premium. justified or not.

Wise words above, as Michael says.... If you are buying nearly new the Virage looks great value, I can't see it becoming a classic collectors piece, but it looks identical to the new 13MY DB9 and offers a nice "step-up" spec compared to the earlier 9. But if you are looking at an earlier car depreciation will make a 9 look better value... Oh and Jockman clearly has all his grey cells firing on all cylinders

it's just a good value "new" style DB9 aint it ??? why pay 140k for a new DB9 when you can have a 1 year old Virage for 90ish.....same car
100% Agree. And I'm sure BR would liberate the "missing" 40bhp for less than £50k.
I'd love a Virage.
Volante.
In red, please.
This one will do:

As you say, there will be minor adjustments in price for these things but no rarity premium as there's nothing that different about it to 'new DB9' which looks the same but has substantially more torque. So even if they produce 10,000 of the new DB9, I can't see how a virage of the same mileage, spec, etc will ever be worth more
The engine in the new DB9 now has variable valve timing and the TT2 can be switched from "manual" to drive by pulling the right paddle towards you for a couple of seconds. The most obvious visual difference is the boot lid
