Monaco GP 2013

Hi all, I am off on my annual jaunt down to Monaco for the GP and wondered if anyone had driven a more interesting route than straight down the A26 and across from Cannes? I fancy taking the motorway down to Lyon and then maybe head across to Grenoble and take in the D roads down to Nice. Any recommendations out there, plus any PH's heading down this year?

Defo going to Monaco myself in the summer with the 9 , but thinking of Rome with the family in the Voyager , but also thinking of flying the kids down and driving the 9 down to Rome as well

Off to Salzburg in a few weeks during half term with the family in the Voyager

I love my car trips, its just the family demands the Voyager, and I want the 9 .........

Im going to the Monaco GP this year as well for the first time flying and staying in Nice.
We are with another couple and will be attending the race on Sunday and also one other day and would appreciate some advice regarding tickets, affordable hospitality and transport to Monte Carlo.
We have been to Monte Carlo before by bus from Nice and it was always a struggle getting on the bus so we intended to get the train from Nice.
We would love to soak up the atmosphere possibly attend some of the bars and parties but have heard that the last train leave Monte Carlo at 23.00 which would be I imagine quite restrictive.
A balcony with drinks and bring your own food sounds good, does anyone have any suggestions?
Price wise it maybe just a grandstand seat may be affordable but standing would be out.
Any advice is much appreciated.

How much are the tickets for the GP? I'd be interested in info as well ....... but the GP would defo be a 9 trip and not a family Voyager trip, bugger knows where I will park, but i'm guessing there will be a huge Aston / Lambo / Ferrari car park somewhere

Drove their via Reims and the old Dijon road. Overnight in Beaune (as always) and then pick it up in Grenoble. Trust me, this will sort of all your driving needs

Depends where you want to sit. Probably around £250-450 for a race day only ticket. Probably £100-150 for quali too.

Or you could go general admission for about £75, but its ste for watching the race unless you get there ridiculously early and don't move all day. Grandstands are the way to go imo.

Also there are far better races to go to imo. Monaco disappointed me when I went for the gp. I won't be going back for it again.

I've been for the past two years, staying in Nice both times.

The train to Monaco is the best option and they lay on extra services along the coast for the race weekend (Thurs, Sat, Sun). The queue at Nice in the morning can be daunting but moves quickly as the trains pull in. You will then have a walk to whichever Stand you go for from the station in Monaco.

It can be difficult to get around in Monaco as many of the staircases and elevators you'd normally use to get up and down are closed and this can mean long detours.

Both times I've been at the front of Tribune (Stand) B in Casino Square which has audible commentary in English, French, Italian & German and a big TV screen opposite which is essential really. There are loos, a sandwich/water/beer stand and a Haagen Dazs restaurant right next door and queues are not long.

The Automobile Club De Monaco http://www.acm.mc/home.php is the source of tickets, I think all others are resellers. Mine cost €500 each for race day but you're very close to the cars and the noise is astonishing.

You can get hospitality packages from people like Thomas Cook Sport but the price goes up accordingly. There are packages for the boats along the harbour but in my experience they're full of pissed idiots making a lot of noise in the hope people will look at them.

Can't say I've ever heard of a BYO in Monaco.

You'll struggle to go very far after the race as the police marshall everyone tightly and there will be a queue of at least an hour to get back to the station. Have a beer somewhere, pass some time and after an hour or so you can walk the circuit and watch the pit crews loading all the gear back onto their trucks which park on the main straight.

Roads re-open at 7pm I think.

There's no racing on Friday and I've heard that the evening can be jolly but very busy and I've not been.

Maverickv12, Monaco GP sounds great, not been myself, but have wanted to go for many years, but have not got around to it. How far are you driving ie which channel crossing are you going to use?

I note you are from Bristol, which part? Me also I live South Glos, in a village called Coalpit Heath, do you know it?. I don't see many Astons around where I live, do you?

Yeti, can you recommend anywhere in Beaune? Ferry booked, race tickets sorted and accommodation in Nice, just need some ideas on overnighter on way down and back up.

Last time I stayed in the Hostellerie Le Cedre; lovely place with a good restaurant. The Cep and the Hotel de la Poste are also fantastic.

Apart from somewhere Mikey found once, there are almost no bad choices in Beaune Wonderful little city!

Thinking of taking a hospitality package looked a few including some of the recommended ones but also discovered one called Grand Prix Adventures has anyone had any dealings with them before?
