For those on the Jaeger-LeCoultre trip in April. We are all travelling at the same time to Beaune on the first night (9th, departing 10th). However, the next morning presents drivers with 2 options:
The first option will require an early start, possibly 7am wheels-up
It will get us into the heart of the Jura mountains before seeking out some very winding mountain pass-style roads which we will wind round before dropping back down into Le Sentier for lunchtime. Our average speed will be lower hence the early start and we will really be pushing on though there will be a coffee/cake and toilet stop for sure
The second option will have a much higher average speed and will take a direct route on bigger roads hence a much later start. It will be a quick drive probably as we have fast cars but just equivalent to running on UK A roads or motorways. It will be a stunningly beautiful drive though through the scenic Juras, with a planned stop again.
Both routes will plan to arrive at Le Sentier at the same time of course and then we stay together until departure - see the other poll!
So the poll question is, would you prefer a sedate route from Beaune to Le Sentier or would you like to be on the spirited route ? When we know the numbers for each we can plan the number of groups we will need.
Please be honest... driving like a maniac/chimney sweep isn't for everyone and the main aim is for everyone to be comfortable and not pushed beyond the limit they are comfortable with.

If there is no snow, the Jura wins every every time, great drive route. On your way to Beaune, if you are not in a hurry but want to take one of the best roads in Northern France the turn off the Payage just after Troyes and take the D971 to Dijon, then down the D974 to Beaune. The D971 is FANTASTIC, especially so as Lorries are not allowed for most of the 'fun' bit, if you drive like me then it is actually a bit quicker, but you really have to be on it!...it really is a stunning stunning route. I lived outside Geneva for 4 years and thus have tried most routes there and back..Njoy..

Whist the fast route sounds a great idea, I would like to put a few caveats against it.
First of all, I have been in discussions with the Tourist Board in Beaune,who are very keen to do
a photo shoot of us all driving through the vine yards of Meursault (D974) which is about 7km outside
of Beaune. Their plan is to use the photos in their marketing and PR literature, so this is a once in a lifetime
opportunity to have our cars and and the trip immortalised in the Burgundy region for many years to come.
The other things spring to mind, we have a great night arranged for the Tuesday with a tutorial
tasting and a celebratory candle light dinner in the cellars of Patriarche Wines in Beaune. I
have to say for me the thought of getting up the following morning at 6.am to be on the
road for 7 pm after the night before, bearing in mind this is against a back drop of a very
early start the day before, is not very appealing.
Just a final note, whilst I am in Victor Meldrew mood, given the wine is going to flow the night
before and given French drink driving laws are now incredibly strict, hence we all have to now
carry breathalysers kits. So leaving very early assuming without any breakfast could be a bit
precarious to say the least.

Very good points Peter. I assume that the wine tasting will be a glass for each person rather than a bottle I think we have to leave it to the individual to be sensible about their consumption during the evening meal in Beaune given the desire to have a spirited drive the following morning.
The evening of the 10th is the evening to have some wine consumption as we don't have to drive the following morning.
With regard to the photoshoot, we will incorporate that into our planning session. I believe that we will be approaching Beaune on that road so is there an opportunity to do the photo session on the 9th when we arrive?
I think we have to leave it to the individual to be sensible about their consumption during the evening meal in Beaune given the desire to have a spirited drive the following morning. The evening of the 10th is the evening to have some wine consumption as we don't have to drive the following morning.
