Changing DB9 drive belt (engine belt)
Discussion
Bought this the other day .......

Whilst carrying out work to the rest of the engine, thought that I would change this as well, when I look down into the engine, it seems miles away, but having taken off the undertray, it looks more accesable.
Will start tomorrow, but thought that I would throw the conversation open and ask if anyone has had any previous experience and any problems that they may have had and how they overcame them ........
Thanks ......

You bought a Bic Biro ?Whilst carrying out work to the rest of the engine, thought that I would change this as well, when I look down into the engine, it seems miles away, but having taken off the undertray, it looks more accesable.

Snuffy, you have had some brilliant cars, but your website does not include the AM, please update ..... why did you sell the Esprits, could you not have pushed them into a garage and kept them .... the Esprits are georgous ...
Turning to the Crankshaft, I know exactly what you mean.... mine is a beautiful shade of rust, if I use that hammerite it should dry in about 30 minutes. Is not the tool to losten the tensioner, merely a 3/8 wratchet?

You are quite right, I need to update my site. But I'll need to get some decent pictures first, as I only have the 3 I took on the first day I got it.

Hello PH'ers, I'll be damned if I can get a wratchet in the belt tensioner. Does anyone know of the special tool that I can get to losen the tension on the belt tensioner?
Any photos?
Thanks ......
The workshop manual says "Using a 3/8 inch ratchet handle 'T' bar"Any photos?
Thanks ......

Is there a clearance issue? My 3/8" 'T' bar is smaller than the ratchet
This looks interesting as it has the 3/8" on one end 1/4" on the other with a 1/2" slider and looks very compact. It is however only 280mm long
To overcome the length issue you could combine it with this which allows you to create a very long 1/4" bar and attach it to the other end of the above
Of course it all depends on the length of the 3/8" end and the clearance you have so it might not work.

Hello boys and girls,
I thought that we had taken these threads as far as we needed but then I realised that I had solved some (if not most) problems, but then did not finish the thread, so here goes......
I phoned Aston and asked about the tool they use to slacken the drive belt pully and was told that they only supply those tools to AM franchise dealers and no one else, sorry they can't help, but do I want to book the car in for the new drive belt ..... ?
I then had to make a tool that was tiny slim to get them between the engine tensioner and the front frame. I eventually came up with .....

I had to cut the bolt in half, I also had to access the belt from below.
I then had to put the bolt in the tensioner, put the spaner on to it and then use a steel bar to give me extra leverage .......
This then meant that I changed the belt easily, it took about 10 minutes to wind the belt around the wheels, almost caught my fingers when I let go the tensioner, but ended up with this .......

There was of course an alternate reason that I wanted the belt changed as if you read another thread, I had a 3k trip that I really felt I'd be better off with a new drive belt.
Job done ............
