Gear shift paddles disabled

Today I had the afternoon off so went for a drive out and stopped off at a local TVR place to have a look at a Tamora. Anyway, when I restarted the car and put it into D there was an unusual clunking noise, and I got the following message:



It wouldn't let me use sport mode, or the paddles.

5 mins later I stop for fuel. Once I've filled up I start the car again and no message whatsoever. It let me use sport mode and the paddles as per normal.

Has anyone had this message before, and if so what causes it?

P.s. Mikey - your method of drive faster if it rains with the roof down didn't work. It basically forced water up the seals along the side of the windscreen, and then into the car!

That's what happens if you get too close to a TVR. It's catching you know.

I will refrain from the normal suggestions of "mould" "lack of use" "shock at being used" etc etc and just suggest that it could just be a blip due to slightly low battery voltage when it was cracked up. Maybe it did it just because it can....after all its a car they do these things

I was awaiting a lack of use comment! The car had done maybe 40-50 miles before I got to the TVR place and worked perfectly, it was only when I started it up that one time

Mine did it the other day. Googled it whilst in Traffic. Can happen if you are abusing it ( i wasn;t!)

Turn car off, on and not come back since. I use it daily.

Ah, seems odd. I wouldn't have said I was particularly abusing it. I wasn't hitting the red line, but was frequently getting close to it. I've driven like that before plenty of times and it's never done it before. Odd.

I had the same thing happen to me on our run out before christmas, I made the mistake of pulling the left leaver when I meant to pull the right one! Stopped and re-started and it was fine.

I didn't even use the paddles from when I started the car, it just popped up as soon as I put it into D. If it's just a case of restarting it then it's not too bad.

I had the same on my 9 - just after the roof module had been replaced, Did it during a journey so stayed in auto for the rest of the trip. When I started for the return trip let me use paddles as normal and never repeated itself.

It happened to me this morning in my V8VR.
99.9% of the time I only use the paddles .... much better in the sportshift than the Auto mode.
However this morning I decided to give the Auto mode a try since I was tired, soon got bored and reverted back to the paddles.
Got the "Paddles Disabled" warning and the car reverted to Auto mode only for the rest of the drive
I e-mailed the AM dealer service and they said it would reset by switching ignition on/off.
Paddles back to normal driving home this afternoon
Although the drivers door would not open since the window would not drop
A quick window reset cured that one

No more Auto mode for me

Every day with an Aston is an adventure (so far in 2 months ownership)

Sounds like it's fairly common then, and since it's not just me I won't be too worried

On the plus side, when the car worked it was fantastic. Got to have some roof off time despite it being absolutely freezing!




Only downside is I need to wash the car again

Interesting that it happens on DB9 Volante and V8 Vantage Roadster with entirely different gearboxes.
Sounds as if we can blame the Aston software engineers

When I first got the DB9 this error used to come up pretty frequently but (tempting fate) have not had it for 12 months. Its almost as if bits and bobs get used to not being used. I do find that pressing the gear selector buttons can sometimes generate a "no Drive" or "no reverse" message but just pressing the N then the button again sorts it out. As some previous threads indicate you have to press the buttons firmly. I wonder if the paddles are the same - a light tough sometimes does not send a complete signal so generates the fault. Will go and try it now

Yes it's happened to me aswell George, it's mainly when I've been driving at my most spirited with low fuel.
Did you see my Chim at TvR, supposed to be sold as of last week but I'm still awaiting clarification, god I miss that car .
