To detail or Not to detail...that is the question
Discussion
Well actually I do know the answer. I know this is a regular topic but CBA to find and bump an old link.
I had been thinking for some while to get my car detailed and was interested to meet paddy328 to see what He could for my Carbon Black Aston paintwork at Hever last year.
I won't ressurect gazebogate but suffice to say when paddy was giving a demo using Nicks DBS bonnet then I was very tempted. Eventually our diaries agreed and paddy came over to Norfolk (no mean feat) yesterday to work his magic on my V12V.
I have always looked after the paint, two buckets, clean mitt (swissvax waschpudel)rinse with autogleam filtered water etc etc. Even after all this care I still had always noticed, in certain light, lots of surface defects in the clearcoat. Having hand waxed the car many occasions I decided that maybe a pro machine polish was in order.
The car was already clean so the process was - claybar to ensure no surface 'bits' stuck to the paint followed by a medium compounding all over to remove the worst defects with a second fine compounding to really get rid of the fine swirls and defects that are just so easy to get on Aston paintwork. When all this was done some 13/14 hours after He started, then an application of 22ple glaze was applied just as a protectant over the new beautified paintwork. I have the honour (?) of giving paddy his longest one day job with him leaving here at midnight some 16 hours after his arrival.
Was it worth it (paddy?) for me then YES
The car looks stunning - there is now a new depth to the finish with no surface defects showing up even under my very critical 'daylight' tubes and diffuser lighting system in the garage. Can't wait to see it in the sun and natural daylight as I was out early this morning on 'football duty' with my daughter and didn't return until well after dark.
The long and short of it....if you are thinking about it then I can guarantee that you will see a major improvement if your P&J after paddy (other detailers are available) has worked his magic. Happy days

I never really understood why pepole had their brand new cars detailed. Now I do.
Young Paddy visited my home yesterday to machine polish and seal me new RR. All I can say is "absolutely stunning". The difference from the dealer prepared car is amazing.
If you are in any doubt about doing this don't be

Having followed the advice on here I had my V12VR paint corrected before the Ventureshield went on. Trying to find someone in the SW to do this was not easy and eventually took my car up to Chippenham for a firm called Project Karma (Zaff) to do for me and they did a fantastic job with the Ventureshield being put on by Autotint from Manchester. I thought the car looked nice when I picked her up from Grange but it looked absolutely awesome when I collected her from Zaff.
He had warned me before I took it up to him that he normally finds between 12-20 defects on a new car paint correction - on mine he found one! just showing the care and attention that Aston have put into preparing the V12VR's - and presumably the other models coming out of Gaydon at the moment.
Just a shame that the weather was atrocious when I brought her home and after a good run along Devon roads she was filthy by the time we got home. Amazingly when I washed her the dirt came off so easily and she looks brand new again

Explained this to Cockernee on the phone last night - my car is now what it should have been two years ago.Young Paddy visited my home yesterday to machine polish and seal me new RR. All I can say is "absolutely stunning". The difference from the dealer prepared car is amazing.

Not really sure if He got it all, was a bad line - think He was casing up a job somewhere

Well, thank you for all the nice comments guys. I was a broken man after doing tony's car. A 2 hour drive back home after the longest day ever was the last thing i needed, but it did look lovely when i left. As he said, it wasnt a big colour change like a lot of the cars i see, but it did remove the hazey light swirls and most of the deeper marks.

It was finished off with a new glass coating by a company called 22ple. This stuff is pretty much the best thing on the market at the min and will last up to two years and actually form a layer of glass over the car. Trouble is, its really expensive:

Nicks awesome new RR had the same treatment. His poor little DBS little also have it applied (after ive spent a couple of days on it of course)
I know zaff from project karma (formerly cliffton car care) he used to swissvax authorised like me. In my opinion, every new aston needs at least a day or more spending on it to bring it up to how it should look. Its a shame they dont have the time to prep them properly or do anything more than slap some autoglym on it, which will mask some of the defects for a bit.
As for a silver car not being worth doing, i would say that there wouldnt be much point spending forever on it, but it would improve the clarity of the finish and make the flake pop. No matter what the colour, you should always protect it in some way.

Sorry thats best I can do at the moment. Paddy was here until midnight and I put the cover back over this evening after being out all day. Will take some better quailty pix when I can.
but its the surface marring that has been removed that - to me - was so obvious on such a dark colour.
