Message “Emission System Service Required” Part 2

As from my previous post regarding the message “Emission System Service Required”, I have lots of suggestions, which was great and thank you.

However, I am having the message investigated on Friday at a dealer, so I will then know if it is just a random message fault, or there is something wrong with the sensors.

When speaking to the service manager about the message, he asked what fuel I use. I informed him that I had been told to fill up with normal unleaded and then on the 10th fill up, use the super unleaded. He stated that this may be the problem, as I am using the normal unleaded instead of the super unleaded.

So I have been given 2 different bits of information, one dealer says use normal unleaded and fill up with super on the 10th refill. The other dealer stated that I should be only filling up with super unleaded.

What fuel should I be using, who is right/wrong??

This is bullst. I never put unleaded in the car. The emission message is very common and is normally due to an oxygen sensor having a wobble. Had I known about this forum when I owned my V8 I would have bought and OBD reader

V8 Vantage has knock sensors so can run on unleaded or Super Unleaded. You will get a performance increase by using 98+ RON - although its only small so you may not notice.
DB9 does not have knock sensors, only runs on normal unleaded

Which is the best OBD reader to get for a V8V and are they easy to use?

I bought this one off amazon.
Very simple to use and can reset those "warnings" and annoying "P0133 errors"

I make a note of the error code before resetting , its always been the '02 sensor CKT slow response' warnings in my experience on both my Vantage and my latest Vantage Roadster.
(A little booklet comes with the OBD reader that explains the errors).

I have spoken to AM in the past about the error codes, mine are indeed just warnings ,
so no need to worry.

It's a 2 minute job to get rid of the annoying warning light, well worth spending the £18 on an OBD reader , I have also used it on friends BMW's.

So I take it the codes are generic or are there specific Aston codes that you look up?

Where is the port that you plug this into, I have seen the technician by the drivers door, so is it in the drivers foot well?

Looks good, but these are about £80+ Like I said it looks good. I think I might go for the one on Amazon, not too expensive and will probably do the same job.

or if you have an Android (proper) phone you can buy a £20 ebay effort with bluetooth . Sadly iphone does not allow data over Bluetooth

OP the dealers are bullstting you
As Nick says the Vantage has knock control so will run fine on 95 or 98
In the 23k miles I've done in my Vantages I can count on one hand when I've used 98, neither of them ever threw any codes
When I did there was no difference
Though I expect Johnny 550 will need it

No problem, I'm sure the one on Amazon will do the job nicely. I've had this a few years, was only about £40 back then.

It comes with a code book , so youi can identify any errors / warnings and reset them if you wish.

The port is in the drivers side , left hand side under the steering wheel.
