OMG. A man chasing the same goal as myself. Anyone can get a OBDII reader, that is easy, but you (and me) need a Code WRITER (not reader).

This is the problem, if you have a BMW, or a Ford, there are 1000's of them so electronic firms make these code writers, with AM, there are only about you and me that want a Code Writer, so why develop for us ....?

I have hunted high and low and eventually found a tool, the firm said they would defo do it, ordered it, got it, it didn;t work, phoned up manufacturer and they said the chap was wrong to sell the tool, sorry, have your money back.

China has some, but you have to send hundreds of pounds to some chap in China and hope that what they send you is what you want, you could end up with a TV remote control ..... then try and get your money back.

I contacted AM and they said that they will sell it to me, its £19,700.00 plus vat, plus £1,000.00 per year (plus vat) for internet access. For a couple of thousand more you could get a DB9 ........ laugh

I have been sidetracked with other engine issues and work issues, damned work, always gets in the way of playing with Astons .... anyway, when I can breath again, I defo want a Code Writer, they appear about £600.00 to £1,000.00 plus, so please don't think you will pay some £70.00 and you'll have what you want.

I did contact the original tool people that sold me the one that did not work, and they said that I could, "try", a Volvo XC90 as that was the closest they could find to the DB9, but as for Ford, Jaguar etc, they said no. Also I did try all those setting when I had the Code Writer and none of them worked.

The Code Writer asks for the VIN number, when you put the AM one in, it throws it back out at you, hence the problem .....

I'm defo with you on this one, so perhaps we can research where we can get a Code Writer, I am betting at the USA, I have a feeling that they will have one ..... when I'm back from the half term holidays I'll start to look again. smile

An easy way into AM diag is to buy a Ford Mazda WDS and load it with AML cd 13 and you have dealer level tool but the latest software was issued in 2006 so may not work with later model neither have the latest flashes.I just managed to find an AMDS and will see how it compares with the old WDS.

If that works, that would be stunningly good. I know 2006 is not as modern as we'd like, but I bet it will work for a vast majority.

More info on this Mazda thingy would be fab, thanks smilesmilesmile

WDS was the system used by Ford – Jaguar – Aston Martin - & Mazda up to about 2006-7. As far as I know any WDS unit can be loaded with the software for each of these manufactures.
One of the most active threads on the WDS system can be found at:
http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/general-tech-hel...
Occasionally a system will come up for sale on Ebay.

look on ebay for Jag or Ford WDS then you will have to load the AM discs, a brand new WDS sold recently for 650£
