To Warranty or Not to Warranty that is the question 2008 V8
How bomb proof are these cars?
Im looking to buy a 1 owner car that has done 40k
It has a full AMSH and is a minter
However it does not have a Warranty
AM want best part of £350 for a Inspection followed by £1800 for a year warranty!
Should I just put £2000 away every year for any possible problems?
Maybe just do the inspection for peace of mind?
Whats people thoughts?

I assume this is not from an authorised dealer if there is no warranty being provided, especially on a 2008 car which would be eligible for the extended premium warranty.
Depending on where you are located (and the car more importantly) you should get an independent inspection done by someone like BR or Trinity and get a full list of any issues currently present and some view on the overall state of the car. Of course you want full service history.
The things most likely to cost you money are tyres, pads, discs at some stage as they can lip, clutch (varies between around 8,000 miles to as much as 50,000 miles depending on how the car has been driven by the previous owner). None of these would be warranty items anyway, so for £2K you could put the money in the back and use it if needed.
Oh, and get Grant's book

My car is now on 87k and had no mechanical issues in the year of extended warranty I got with the car. The only things I had done (with a bit of debate) under warranty was the bubbling paint on the door handles and I had a frayed seatbelt changed.
Check there's no corrosion bubbling under on the wing mirror mounts.
If the cosmetic things are good I wouldn't worry about anything mechanical that hasn't shown up already with one owner covering 40k.
That said, if you just want peace of mind, then it depends how much that's worth to you.

This is a question that only hindsight can answer. If you get a warranty and this car goes the year without needing any work then you've been smart. If you don't get a warranty and something major goes then you've been a fool.
As it's not coming from an AM dealer I hope you'll be getting a few grand off the ticket price, and any savings could be deposited into a sinking repair fund along with the cost of the warranty, should you decide against getting a warranty.

I have a DB9 so know zilch about the V8, however the V12 unit is pretty "bomb proof" as far as I know but all the other bits are not.
Examples of stuff put right on mine - 2 x door modules, 1 x heated read screen, in door courtesy lights, rear sub woofer, faulty AC switch. Now this lot ( and much more) was done by the dealer FOC post sale snag list. Some of this (sub woofer) would not have been warranted, but some would. Include labour and the bill is significant.
Also bear in mind that Aston Dealer supplied cars have a 12 month warranty included and in my experience the Aston Dealer cars seem to carry no noticeable premium (my experience is Stratstones) over the non franchise dealer asking prices ( no idea what you could buy it for)

I go for the "put £2K a year in the bank" strategy and its worked fine for nearly 6 years/60K miles now
this year my car does need a some maintenance work, but all consumable parts, not failures that would be covered by a "warranty" anyway
the modern day Gaydon era Aston is built to Ford durability standards and you have to be real unlucky to get one with a lot of issues

This is an interesting dilemma I had a warranty when I got mine which was from a prestige dealer but not AM. I was never sure what the chances of claiming against the warranty were and I seem to recall others on here have had problems. As luck would have it, I never needed to claim anyway although I have recently noticed the dreaded corrosion on the wing mirror mounts which I will need to sort.
