I need new front tyres, thinking Michelins, however my rear tyres are still good so was going to leave them for now purely as a financial thing.

What does the collective think on how that mix would perform?

My gut feel is that it would probably be fine, not ideal but I don't want to cough for a full set of Michelins right now...

Or just stick with Bridgestones as a safe option?

Whats the relative tyre wear index of the two?

If the difference is large I'd be concerned one end is going to be have more grip than the other
Giving the potential for more over or under steer depending on the difference and how you drive wink

As long as the axle pairs are the same brand/type and a similar age, you will be fine.

However, the Michelin Supersports (which I presume that you are going to get) are a better performing tyre than the Bridgestones so if you are 'pushing on', you might find that the front is a bit grippier than the rear. Hence the car will be a bit more oversteery.

In all of my RWD cars of the past (mainly of the M3 variety), I generally go through 2 sets of rears for every set of fronts. So, I imagine that the remaining Bridgstones will be off before too long. smile

I guess if I don't like it I can always change the rears next payday...

Ordered to fit this afternoon, fronts £245 each fitted, rears (for future reference obviously) £327 fitted, not that bad I thought!

I got the Pilot Super Sports on the rear with the original Bridgestones on the front.
The bridgestones from memory have half the wear rating plus they are noisy and less grippy, very happy with the PSS, can't wait for the front to wear out now....

Worth knowing
Mike @ BR was pushing the PSS's for my next tyre change.

Sorry but that's astronomical for the rears. I paid 250 something (256? I'd have to look it up, sure it was £512 total) for the rears through Event tyres (fitted) a couple of weeks ago. Interestingly they were some £30 more a corner pre Christmas. Chap seemed knowledgeable enough & they come to your door/place of work too which is a bonus.

Good decision btw. The PSS are much better tyres, not sure they are much quieter in my experience so far (~500miles) but the additional grip has been really noticeable this winter.

Same situation as myself, need to put some more miles on and get the fronts switched. It does feel a bit understeery in the wet now mind. Perhaps when the fronts are changed my road noise might reduce as well as restoring the balance. Be interesting to see.

Good to get a reference especially as I haven't bought the rears yet, from memory I paid about £275 fitted for my last Bridgestones so figured an extra 60 odd quid for Michelins would be about par for the course.

Eta Event tyres are quoting £265 for rears, good saving, thanks for the nod. They quote £242 for the fronts so I don't feel too bad about those :-)

+1

Fronts price is Dealer level, but Rears price is in excess of what Dealers are charging smile

Depends how you see Bridgestone vs Michelin I guess, I see them as a step up so would expect to pay more.

True
I'm not that easy to please wink
So I'd expect better for lower price if they are not AM spec and not from a dealer wink
I've used Event in the past with great service and prices (though they don't like to haggle frown )

Just had dunlops fitted on the rear, £440 fitted for the pair, the reason I chose them over the standard Bridgestones was the stopping rating in the wet, the dunlops have an A rating which is the best, Bridgestones are C.

Have had them on a couple of weeks, excellent and the road noise is quite a bit less, you can hear the exhaust more..
