Help with route through London

Have to get to the Excell centre in Docklands from West Wales on Monday.
Last time we went straight through London and it took ages. Ssomeone suggested the M25 south then A2 & Blachwall tunnel would be quicker but much longer. Any advice please from the locals would be much appreciated.
Will be in the Aston so hope it's ok to post this on here!!!

I would take the m25 and blackwell tunnel if during peak times, later at night or early in morning i would go straight through via the ealing fly over, embankment, etc.Last time we went straight through London and it took ages. If at rush hour I would say it's going to take ages whichever way you go. If you are not used to the crawl of London traffic then it always feels like you've made the wrong choice,
The Blackwall tunnel is notoriously bad in the mornings and it would not be unusual for it to take upwards of 30 minutes to an hour to queue from the Charlton or Kidbroke interchange through to the other side.
Everytime I have come in from the west side, the journey seems to move faster than coming in from the east and a good deal further before it really snarls up.
Going round the M25 and in on the A2 will add 50 miles and a good deal of M25 uncertainty which lets face it is legendry for hold ups.
So if it were me, I'd use M4 in then A4 to marble arch, down constitution hill, birdcage walk and then follow the embankment out to ExCel.
Whichever route you choose you will certainly encounter traffic.
Being in a vantage though, at least you won't smell of wee and pipe smoke when you get there!

I have been working out that way for the last couple of weeks. Beckton to be precise.
I would have thought that your original route, down to the embankment and out via the Highway and the Limehouse tunnel would by your best bet at 14.00 during the week. It will be slow but you'll get there.
Having to be in Beckton for 8am I am following the north of the river and going out the same way from my home in SW London. 16 miles that takes 1.5 hours by car, 35mins by motorcycle and anywhere between 1.25 and 1.75 hours by public transport.

Thanks for the parking info Jockman., but I've managed to blag a free parking space behind the Crown Plaza hotel! Your exhibition sounds much more interesting than a load of heat pumps and solar panels ! I'm in the wrong business.
