Vanquish with an automatic gearbox,
Forgetting the cygnet
Forgettign that they didnt use the DB8 as aston thought it would confuse the americans
The DBS has the same bodypanels as the DB9, apart from the bodypanels which are diferent
Forgetting to mention about newport pagnell sale as a co-factor in the vanqish production stopping
Forgetting the Db7 zagato, a model in its own right

Sill its quite funny. And he did get he virage right. His head must explode when he thinks about the US auto industry, who launch "new" cars every year whose only difference is the model year.

I'd heard about DB9 and vantage etc., but I thought they were only marketing names, and the real choice was whether you buy a grey one or something a bit eccentric?

When I contcted AM about a question or something, the conversation turned to the DB9 and DBS, and I was told that the body panels for the DBS are completely different to that of the DB9. A lot of the costs come from Carbon Fibre, in that the DBS is loaded with it from toe to tip, not in a bad way, but in a way that is what it was really ment for and not what the youth of today like it for.

But you're right .... no mention of the Cygnet (which is perhaps good), the 177, Zagato.

Are AM saying, if we have achieved perfection, how to we improve on it?

I guess Aston are evolving their cars, because they believe that they have achieved a level where the cars can only be evolved.

The mention of the price difference between the Vanquish 1 and the DB9, made me think of the YouTube Newport Pagnell factory film.

No wonder the Vanquish price was so high. A craftsman with a hammer can make a beautiful wing, but it took a jolly long time.

For me, much of the appeal is the unmistakeable Aston Martin shape of the modern cars (DB7 onwards). The changes that have been made are often subtle, evolving design and technology, but still unmistakeably AM in its GA. For what its worth, I feel very fortunate and indeed proud, that such beautiful cars are being hand made in England,,,,rule Britania an' all that.

This ^^ To be honest, they are all quite similar and it's not helped by the fact that 99% of them are the same grey with the same black interior.

From most angles, could you tell at a glance a 3, 5 and 7 series Beemers or A4, A6 and A8 Audis
apart?

Although there is a massive difference between the DB7, the Vanquish and the VH cars generally speaking he's got a point!

We all know the limitations of AM's budget means that they have to wring the neck out of every design. In an ideal world I'm sure they would want to have a true successor to the DB9 and the Vantage either out or in the latter stages of development. After 10 years of working with it a 2013 DB9 must be pretty much as far as they can take that design.

Is there any news as to how close a true DB9 successor (DB10?) is?

Well it gave me a cheap laugh and being honest from a distance I really can't tell them apart and I'm more informed than most. I have been asked if mines a DB9 a couple of times as its debaged.
