Last time I looked at the DB9, the seat did'nt go back far enough and it was just too cramped inside.

I am about 6'4...

The Vantage, although a smaller car, had a little more room inside..

Since then, the Rapide has come out. I am right in thinking that with the longer wheel base of the Rapide, they have been able to allow the seats to go back more and so accommodate taller people?

Before I drive 30 miles to the nearest dealer, it would be good to know if it is likely to be a wasted journey or not.

I must say that I was a critic of the Rapide ( which still seems a poor competitor to a Panamera on the basis of seating 4 people ) but if I consider it as a 2+2, or a DB9 I can actually fit in to, then it starts to make more sense...

And it must be said that at around £80k with low mileage, they look good value compared to new price !

Any insight from tall owners with big feet, are welcome.. smile

I'm 6'2" and have no problem getting comfortable in my DB9, but the time will soon come when I need a larger 4 door 4 seater so that I can share the driving to our family in Bavaria with my youngest son. We did try a Rapide for size and yes, there is more front seat fore and aft adjustment, unfortunately there is not enough leg room for adult rear seat passengers to remain comfortable for long on six hour legs. A two year old 2013 5.0L S/C Range Rover looks like being a very strong contender for the job, which begs a question. Does Eurotunnel carry RR's in the standard or high vehicle carriages?

Thanks. Being a couple of inches taller, the DB9 platform just does'nt fit me. Good to hear that the Rapide has more seat adjustment. This knowledge is enough to justify a trip to the dealer I think.

I only really need the car as a 2+2. In truth, I am as likely to carry a dog in the back as I am a person !

I guess this is why the Panamera looks the way that it does ! Provide enough room for grown up people and it ends up looking a bit odd...

Surprisingly little choice if you are after pace, grace and all with a bit more space...

Either in my experience. The RR fits fine in a normal compartment but sometimes people go in the tall vehicles part and the operatives don't seem to have a problem with that.

A visit to an AM exposition is never a "wasted journey" ... wink

3 weeks ago on the Euro Tunnel the sat nav aerial of the Range Rover in front of me belted the hanging height warning bar.

They have two hanging bars and he drove more slowly through the next one and then in the same bit of the train as me.

So the answer seems to be yes and no and how much you value your say nav aerial!

Thanks all, if I do end up with an aluminium RR I will ask for the van carrier.

Eurotunnel quote a height of up to 1.85m for normal cars/vans. The new RR is slightly taller than that with a roof aerial or open panoramic roof.

With roof antennae 1,867mm
With panoramic roof open 1,874mm

Its probably down to the seating position you are adopting. Try putting the seat in a more upright position and then it should go back further - a correct seating position is actually far more upright than 90% of drivers seem to naturally adopt for comfort.

Also try a car with the lightweight seats, being much thinner you gain a lot of extra legroom and I personally find the seats considerably more comfortable and supportive.

I am 6'0" and I have my lightweights relatively far forward to be able to reach the pedals and steering wheel in the correct position. I am quite sure I could easily add at least 4" by moving the seat backwards and of course your legs / arms only account for half of that each when seated. I'd be really surprised if a 6'4" person couldn't comfortably sit in a Vantage with lightweights.

Here is the normal position for my lightweight seats - as you can probably see from the pictures there is several inches of movement backwards still available.

I'm 6'6" , 20 stone+ and big build and I have no problem fitting in my 05 DB9, you just have to set the seat right , and it doesn't have to go all of the way back. I drove a Rapide the other week and posted up on here to say what a fantastic car it is, well for me at least.

Another tall one here. 6'5" with an 05 DB9 - found it more comfortable than the same era Vantage I tried. The seat has many different positions - more upright = further back, definitely not uncomfortable for me.

I'm 6'4" and fit in an '07 Vantage coupe (with standard seats) just fine.

Hello. I'm 6 foot 4 and 3/4 and 18 stone. I had the same concern before I brought my DB9. With the seat back and low and steering wheel adjusted correctly, I have no problem fitting.
I do have a problem getting the seat belt into its fastner, i can do it though.

A little snug but worth it. Tim

Hi there,

for those who know, is there a significant difference in seat heigth for between 2004 DB9 models versus the 2007 model (new seat design).

In the 'Gaydon' book, it seems that both specs are the same when it comes to distance between seat and inner roof, but maybe some real world experiences may help on this...

Cheers,
Frank
