Little whisper!
Discussion
Heard a little whisper recently, AM are poised to release a new Vantage V12, packing 600plus BHP with a top speed of 200 mph . Sceptical? I am not so sure , we are in their 100th year , AM need something big . This could be the one and lets be honest now that they have a few extra shillings lets hope that they go for it. Aston Martin now have a sizeable presence at Le . Mans. It is their time , there will never be a better one!!!!!
Rob,
As I hinted on your DSG post a little bird told me certain parties were running 565 and plus bhp v12v's currently up at factory.
If my memory serves me right there was to be a limited run of 100,I think with the flappy paddle option but don't quote me on that bit.
It looks like the RS may come after all, going to the stand at Geneva Thursday so I'll pump up Jonny foreigner to see if Europe knows anything.

I think it might be time to revive the idea of the V600, get a V12 (either Vantage, Vanquish or DBS revival) and bolt 2 superchargers to it.
Aston needs a decent looking high powered motor that breaks the aging specs of (4.x second / 186mph) etc..
Apart from the One-77, how many cars have been produced for the public that break the 200MPH barrier?
Two perhaps?
Perhaps a DB - Double S (DB-SS), or a DBsc)
Be nice if they had a defined model family with a the V8V at the entry point and a fire breathing V12 twin SC engined monster at the top with the usual Aston clones in between.

Correct. The Jag will definitely steal sales from it.

Why exactly does it need to do 200mph? Bragging rights? I'd rather it did 180mph and accelerated quicker. Aston needs a decent looking high powered motor that breaks the aging specs of (4.x second / 186mph) etc..

The V600 was already based on a twin supercharged engine too, not a normally aspirated one. If they wanted to make 600bhp I can't see why they couldn't get that with a few tweaks to the 310quish engine.

Are they definitely going to produce another Vantage then? It's a very competitive segment and they are a small player. An alternative strategy for them would be to forget the vantage and concentrate oh higher end cars, leaving the 911 and F type to slug it out?
Agreed and how much life is left in the V8 engine which I believe is based on the old Jag XK block? I think a few of us on here have been aware for a while of testing of v12 vantages with 2 pedals and/or vanquish based engine upgrades but which direction any new or ltd ed model will go in I have no idea
Personally, whilst I'd be delighted as it will help bolster the idea of v12V/VR being last of an era, I think it would be a mistake to go down the 2 pedal route with V12V - I just don't see it suiting that particular car
I also happen to think, for all the great things BR do for some of us, the last thing V12 Vantage 'production version' needs to help sales is more power. A lightweight version maybe, but I'm unfortunately not sure they'd ever do that
Compound that with the idea stated by an early post that they might only make 100 and it would seem they are focussing in the wrong area, or more pertinantly on the wrong car
The car that needs more power and slightly better acceleration figures is Vanquish - it was never going to win stats battles but it had to have over 600 bhp and 0-60 less than 4 seconds to avoid looking embarassed not just when compared to cars like the F12, but also the latest batch of supersaloons (who will buy a vanquish as their second car, to be used as a GT, if it looks & feels slower than their DD ?) and for that matter, to avoid being run so close by DB9
It also needed to be about 20k cheaper. Then it wouldn't be suffering the current sales slump that has started
What price if they bring out a vanquish S. Base price of current version is over 190k, so will an S be 210 ? An S volante 220k ? It just won't sell at that level
And if a V12 Vantage Coupe is refreshed to 600 bhp and sells a say, 150-160 (?), that will make vanquish look even more barmy in it's pricing
A higher powered V12 would create some headlines but it's no solution to a sustained increase in sales

Can anyone explain why the V8V is the car used at Le Mans? The V12V would presumably achieve faster lap times, although might need more fuel stops.
Perhaps the reason for not using the V12V, is to do with the Class technical regulations.

Yeah, the AJ-V8, it's the same series as the V8 F-type engine though, so not really "old". The aston version is not that similar to the Jag one, dry sump, different material, different stroke, different heads, but same bore and spacing (I think). Definitely same family if not identical.- Steve
