Emission System Service Required Again!

I have been out in my car today for a little drive and imaging my surprise when I started her up, I got a message on my dashboard with the "Emission System Service Required". Now I had this happen last month and it was reset by the dealer, but it has happened again.
I wouldn't mind as I know this happens occasionally, but I have followed all the advice I have found to prevent this happening. I have been purchasing the higher octane fuel. I have not left my car for weeks without turning it over or driving it and I have gone for a good drive today and this hasn't cleared it either.
Does this just need resetting, again, or may there be a problem with sensor? This is so
I have to take my car in to the dealer on Thursday to replace a mirror arm that has bad underlying corrosion under the covering, so they should be able to sort this out as well.
Does anyone know when the technician plugs his laptop into the car, will it just tell them to reset it, or will it actually say there is a problem and it needs replacing?

When Nick owned the car the warning was in fact targeted at the driver. God only knows what his emmission are like with all that alcohol consumption

Just for reference.... I've never put premium fuel in my car, often leave it for months on end without starting... And I've never had an emission light on...Thanks.

^^ This, no connection. It will be an oxygen sensor, hopefully very simple.If you get your own OBDII, then you will be able to read the codes, the codes will tell you what the problem is. If you have had the warning reset and it has come back then there is normally a problem, although some PH'ers have found that the damn thing just is sensative.
It could be an O2 sensor, but it could also be plugs and/or coil and/or old dirty airfilter and/or a O2 sensor and/or a combination of all and/or some of them. It could even be (although I have not heard of it) the ECU and / or an injector.
Get an OBDII from eBay, read your codes and find out what the problem is before throwing money at it. Most won't be covered under warranty because its a, "service".

As I indicated in a previous post I was told that the mapping on the vantage was to close for comfort and the EGR was changed on the V8S
On my vehicle I purchased the reader following numerous visits to the dealer and to Rick at DMS; against his advice I changed the O2 sensor RHD bank pre and post cat, later changed 2 injectors and 11 miles down the road the warning arrives again.
If one is unlucky one can spend a fortune attempting a fix- as did !I

O2 sensors may be the cause but I have never changed an o2 sensor in any car I have owned, let alone in a 2 year old 12K miler.

Agreed, it does come up often - even ihave had engine check lights, but they'd extinguish themselves on the next start up. The last one didn't and that was a slight misfire so a plug change needed (37k miles).My personal experience was that the light came up and I cleared it a number of times, it kept coming back. This was in the days before I was confident in making wild guesses at what it could be. I contacted AM (Derby Franchise - I think) and they said that o2 sensors do go wrong, but in most cases they are highly reliable.
For me, I changed the plugs, which were not a mile off of when they were supposed to be changed. The dealer sorting the problem also wanted to change the coils, and for the labour costs, its was cost effective to change them at the same time.
As well as that - importantly - (for me) I had the oily air-filters. I sorted them (as well as the other things), it sorted itself out. I can't remember the codes, but there was a lean run, missfire bank 1 and missfire bank 2 and ramdom misfire (I think).
The problem was resolved by the use of a scatter gun approach, an approach I would not take now, as I would want to resolve the problem.

Well I have been to Harwoods this morning and had my drivers door mirror replaced (due to corrosion under the mirror arm covering which caused bad bubbling)
They also looked at the emission system service required message again, and they have now diagnosed that the O2 sensor is not working. So back to Harwoods next week to have that changed.
