Young and dumb.. as the parents often call me, however, i like to think theres some love there!!

Anyway, every car i have owned, I have modified in some form, or ruined according to those who don't understand the sense of satisfaction you get from making a vehicle slightly different from standard. Ive now started to get the bug to modify the 4.3 V8V, problem being its a little bit more expensive than previous cars. At some point, Ill get the BR exhaust system and clutch, but i need to do some saving for that. Mean time, I have seen a company, called J1 Automotive, selling air filters for the vantage. £85 plus the tax for the pair, seems reasonable. they reckon plus 6bhp, every little helps and all that jazz!

Has anyone changed their air filters? If so, much difference to performance or noise? Is it worth doing really?

Am i right in saying BR do an induction system? If so how much would that set me back?

I have fitted their filter to my Vanquish. K&N do not do not do an exact replacement but this one is. BR recommended them to me last year..

Sam - we all get our air filters changed at alternate service time, along with the pollen filter.

I've never heard of a bhp advantage being secured confused

you can fit the K&N instead of stock and ditch the airbox and it will make a hell of a row but i doubt you would see 6hp. you could suck up matter or wildlife though, like passing wildebeest.

It does indicate my age...

Definitely not saying it will add 6hp, just their comments. Although i do notice i difference the cars vie changed them on in the past.

I was going to buy products from J1 in the past and they seems pretty good. Ill order up as their a direct replacement and see what happens.

The other bonus being you never have to change the air filter again when servicing!

I think it can work and add bhp, but the important thing is to tell the ECU that it can breath more easy. Indeed I thnk you can tell the ECU to run on 97 octane fuel alone and it will increase the BHP, or if not then the drivablity of the car.

Changing the filters (and telling the ECU) can add a certain amount of bhp, but to be honest you need to look at the whole system, inlet, outlet, how it breaths etc. The best person to talk to here is Yeti, who is building a road rocket.

Whilst 6bhp could probably be attained, is 6 bhp in a 400+ bhp car worth it? is a 1.5% increase in power worth it on its own ? smile

J1 filters were used by the now defunct DMS in place of the OEM filters, they made no claim there was a gain from them
Only current proven NA gain on the V8 intake is the N400/S air boxes
Though that is about to change wink

Some very good points maverick thanks for that!

not chasing hp by any means, just wondered if it made the engine breathe easier and wether there it made a difference, just a bit of a cheap mod in my eyes to stop me getring bored! Will eventually get the br manifolds and cats.. eventually!

I think the J1 filter is actually cheaper than the Aston paper element.

Your one cheeky git .......... smile and for the record, I'm not that fond of champagne .........Mrs Gould enjoys glass of Veuve C which I believe is available from some branches of The Asda
