Chaps,

In broad terms.....

If a DB9 is advertised at £40,000 through a dealer, how much typically would you expect to get off this figure for a cash sale?

If a car is advertised at £40,000 through a private advert, how much typically would you expect to get off this figure for a cash sale?

There are many cars that have been listed for sale for quite a few months, hence my question.

Any guidance much appreciated!

Dealers prefer finance sales to cash sales.

Quite possible that you would be reported to HMRC by the Dealer for a High Value Sale, under Money Laundering Regulations.

Many items fall into this area if the cash transaction is over 15,000 euros (£12k ish).

HMRC would want to know where you got the cash from, even though you are no doubt 100% legit.

Cockers will know more about this area smile

When I say cash I mean cash from a bank account!

(as opposed to a finance sale)

There isn't a hard and fast rule, it depends how motivated the seller is, how long the car has been in stock, dealer targets at that time etc.

Dealers do prefer finance as it benefits them more.

That situation is not specific to cash, Kris. OP wants to know what advantage cash will give him over and above this smile

Depends who it is. Stratstone have a well publicised price it keen and don't move policy. It depends on what the car is worth at the end of the day. £40,000 - 2006 40 odd k miles, but it could be a 2004 with 5,000 miles on it and then the debate will go on forever if you should buy a garage queen or not!

The advice is generally tht they won't move far on price, so the better game to play is what will they throw in? Next year's service, an extra year's warranty, thuings that cost them far less money than they cost you.

Privately; it depemnds on how quickly the seller needs to sell or also how they have priced their cars.

I have sold two cars privately recently, priced one to have wiggle room as it was a unique car in the marketplace, priced one very low and did not budge a pound as it was a common car so the initail price made it visible. You won't know what a seller has done until you see the car.

Fortunately Astons are quite good at showing when they haven't been looked after, just don't go and look with rose-tinted specs!

Phil, what he means is paying outright, no fiance and no trade in.

He does not mean walking in with a Tesco's carrier bang stuffed full of used fivers !!

Anyone who came to the used fivers conclusion is clearly a bid dodgy themselves laugh

hehe

Why not just say 'without finance' ??

If a builder did a discount for you to reflect a cash payment, he would expect a Tesco bagfull yes
