bodywork - corrosion
Discussion
Hi nicke999,
yes, I recently bought a DB9 (2006) and I have bubbles under the paint around the door handles, locks, n/s/f wing below repeater and along the o/s/f wing adjacent to the bonnet line from scuttle to grille. I have read of other owners on this forum mentioning these areas and the fact that AM are not prepared to accept responsibility. The only action AM seem to take is offer circa 30% compensation if you are lucky and provided you use an AM approved body shop, who are (probably) already inflating the cost anyway. Old cynic that I am says that I will make noises to the dealership where I bought the car but I don't expect any real help with this.

I think some people get more lucky than others - not been keeping track of people's success rate.
If you bought the car recently, I expect they'll be OK about it. Some dealers are better than others.
I've heard that it's cased where there's two different metals next to each other reacting? Sounds plausible at least.

Here are a couple of threads, Just consult the Google, there’s loads of them.

That's galvanic reaction; I don't think Aston juxtapose aluminium with steel anymore. Can't think of anywhere on the car
As mentioned above, it was poor body preparation prior to painting therefore Aston won't stump up for it as its not 'corrosion'. The paintwork guarantee is only 3 years

Less of an issue on later cars as they moved to a UV wipes cleaning system and painting robots

That's a bit rubbish.
Quite inexcusable.
I think they only time they will listen attentively and act properly (ie honorably) is when it is likely to hurt them directly.
Time for a class action equivalent? If everyone affected joined the sad guys' club (no shortage of potential members) then the stance would likely alter.

Mine is booked in at Grange Welwyn to get the dashboard trim looked at(shrinks in the sun apparently) and two tiny bits of paint bubbling. One just inside drivers door handle, the other by the nearside quarterlight.Hoping Paul`s team will work their wonders under warranty as I only bought it off Grange 8 weeks ago.

I would be very interested to know the outcome of this please, how old is the car?My experience suggests it is quite difficult even with a freshly bought main dealer car to get this sort of thing done under warranty.

They will be picking up on Tuesday so will keep you updated. It is a 2008 DB9 Volante, bought in March from Grange Exeter. My experience suggests it is quite difficult even with a freshly bought main dealer car to get this sort of thing done under warranty.
I had started the corrosion claim at Stratstones Amersham but they highlighted the upper dashboard leather lifting so thought it would be wise to get everything done through the suppling dealership.
I will let you know the outcome but Paul was fairly bullish about the Corrosion claim when i spoke to him.
