Mirror replacement

Hi,
Following the recent failure of the glue that holds the mirror in on the drivers side wing mirror (and the glass landing on my drive in several bits) I have ordered a new mirror which arrived today. Does anyone know how to remove the existing e mirror from the housing (the plastic backing plate). Grateful for any help
