v8 vantage on 20" wheels
Discussion
Morning guys
So was talking with someone on aftermarket rims and he said that rims are going to be 20x11 and 20x9. He also said most of his customers run 255/30/20 and 305/25/20s on them.
Im keen to go for 20" wheels to improve look of the car and I understand the thinner tyre profiles allow you to maintain the same ride height. What im confused about is the width of the appropriate tyres for these rims. Those suggested sound alot wider than normal. Any insights on this please?

To my eyes, Barny11's vantage looks perfect on 20s

Additionally Burntout has 20s on his.
Neither have reported issues

Its not just the width its the offsets! So was talking with someone on aftermarket rims and he said that rims are going to be 20x11 and 20x9. He also said most of his customers run 255/30/20 and 305/25/20s on them.

For example if the width increases by 15 mm and the offset is 15mm out you could be 30mm closer to the inner or outer arch (or calipers, suspension arms etc)
You need to get the OEM width and offset then compare them to your proposed set using this calculator

If you don't it could be an expensive mistake

I found out the hard way on one of my previous cars with an expensive set of Rays

Yes but the 305 tyre would be on a 20x11 alloy?
Thus bigger allow should allow wider tyre???? Again im no expert so looking
For confirmation.
It's matter of available area under the car, not fotting the tyre to the wheel - an 11" wide alloy wheel wouldn't fit on my car I don't think. Maybe it will on a Vantage though... If it would, I would like them as well if they were good quality, lightweight and looked good Thus bigger allow should allow wider tyre???? Again im no expert so looking

DBS wheels certainly fit on a Vantage, but they fill the arch RIGHT to the edge, there are pictures around of them.
Can't imagine getting another 10mm in there... But if it's fitted to another car, then it obviously does! I'd want to know how much of the suspension travel it had been tested under and what cornering load/tyre deformation is would take before it would foul the arch. Because it must be very, very close...

They are 20" tall yes... but are they 11" wide and running 305 section tyres? The DBS isn't, they'll be 295s. http://web20.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

Is Burntout around to confirm what he's got?? Be interested to know as a 305+ section tyre is what I'd like...
as did

From that link:
20 X 9 front, with 245/30/20 P-Nero
20 X 11 rear, with 325/25/20 P-Nero
So you can get a 325mm section tyre on the back of a Vantage!! Wow.
I want that much rubber on the road for my new engine
Edited to add; the second and third link 'only' have 305mm tyres... So is that a typo saying 325mm..?

no, ive come across many threads that suggest that you can go up to 325 on a 20X11 wheels!!
So I guess if you can get a 20X11 onto a v8 vantage (as many tuners/people) have then these high widths tyres shouldn't cause a problem.
Thanks for the calculator link MIKEY, however have no idea on the offset of the new wheel.

If you were to go to a 25 profile in the back, you really need to use a 325 (which will probably foul on a DB9 since it doesn't have the big flared arches that the v8 has), otherwise a 305 will result in a loss of a half-inch of ground clearance. I'd much rather increase the clearance by a 3 mm (by using a 305-30/20) than lose 12 mm of clearance (by using a 305-25/20).20 X 9 front, with 245/30/20 P-Nero

Seriously it is worth finding the offsets and checkingSo I guess if you can get a 20X11 onto a v8 vantage (as many tuners/people) have then these high widths tyres shouldn't cause a problem.

A quick google search came up with

2006 V8 Vantage. The dimensions are
FRONT: 19x8.5 offset 46mm, bolt pattern 5-114
REAR: 19X9.5 offset 59mm, bolt pattern 5-114
The OEM V12 Vantage Wheels are as follows
FRONT: 19x9 offset 51, bolt pattern 5-114
REAR: 19x11 offset 68, bolt pattern 5-114
So all you need is the offsets of the wheels you are after and decide how much clearance you are willing to give up.FRONT: 19x8.5 offset 46mm, bolt pattern 5-114
REAR: 19X9.5 offset 59mm, bolt pattern 5-114
The OEM V12 Vantage Wheels are as follows

REAR: 19x11 offset 68, bolt pattern 5-114
