ASTON MARTIN - Nürburgring 24 Hours Race
Discussion
Hopefully we can see the race live on television.
If you have a dish pointing to the Astra 1B 19.2E satellite, try channel DSF today at 16:15 (UK time) for Top 40 Qualifying 16:50 to 17:45, and on Sunday 15:00 for the race. The race start is 16:00. The start is often exciting, because there are so many cars racing. The field is normally started in two batches.
The entry list is on;

Five Aston Martins have been entered.

Top 40 Qualifying has just finished.
Aston Martin Racing, Car No 007, Vantage GT3 is in second position, with a lap time of 8:18.362
...........................
I have noted a recent build up of feeling about paintwork defects Alan. Perhaps the volume of complaints will result in some action (read that word both ways).

Jon39, I do not have a dish that I can tune, its a bog standard jobbie but I do love to watch anything and I do mean anything Aston Racing. Is the race itself being televised on any of the Sky channels please?Aston Martin Racing, Car No 007, Vantage GT3 is in second position, with a lap time of 8:18.362

Bob.
As I am not a football enthusiast, I have therefore never felt any need to give Sky any money (Sky News is free anyway). However, many years ago, initially as a way of learning about these things, I bought a £50 satellite TV kit from Lidl. I like a challenge, but as usual, it does become easy when you know how. There are a huge number of free channels from various satellites. You can even watch the whole of the Le Mans 24 Hours race free, if you manage to stay awake.

In THEORY, if they open on Sunday, you could buy an unrestricted HD satellite TV kit from Maplin, and then have it working in time to watch the start of the race. NOT RECOMMENDED though, if you are a first timer.
Your SKY dish points to a different satellite. Whether the race is shown on a SKY channel, I do not know.
The German TV station's website, http://www.dsf.de/index.html does indicate that their channel can be viewed on line, so that might be something for you to explore. My patience ran out though before any pictures appeared.

On a basic level it may seem pointless spending big money on race development and race teams but we all know that the development work will (may) one day filter down to the road cars and that there are big PR possibilities to be had from being in the race scene. I think there would be a lot more upsets if AM pulled out of racing. I imagine it would be taken as a very bad sign.

Hi Bob, I think your enthusiasm for all things AM is great - Robgt (Mr MollyGTi) was just as excited when he was waiting for his Aston to be built. We are nearly two & a half years into ownership & onto our second one now and he still can't get enough of all things AM. He just started another Nurburgring thread & I asked him why when there was this one on the go - because someone's talking about paint finish complaints, he said, when I just want to see AM do well!

Well said Molly! 100% agree. The racing is the pedigree that makes Aston Martin the product we love.On a basic level it may seem pointless spending big money on race development and race teams but we all know that the development work will (may) one day filter down to the road cars and that there are big PR possibilities to be had from being in the race scene. What a silly paint bubble moan on this thread.

Aston should be ashamed at the fact they are spending lots of money running a racing division whilst at the same time refusing to pay out for owners of their "real" cars with paintwork issues.
What a load of s
t. They need to run a racing team, and they need to be winning. I forgot who said it but 'win on Sunday, sell on Monday'.Plus since they sell customer racing cars, they may as well have a factory team.

Sorry to moan about my paint bubbles, if you allow me to explain please? What a silly paint bubble moan on this thread.
I bought my 2007 V8 Vantage Roadster only 6 months ago, my first Aston Martin.
I really love it, but this week I received an estimate from an AM Approved Repairer to rectify the issues with my car
Namely
Paint bubbles on both doors
Paint falling off door mirror mount
Rear parking sensor mounts corroding
Rear metal meshes adjacent to the parking sensors corroding
The estimate is over £3,500 inc new parts
I apologise for moaning about this on this thread

Forum protocol is that you only moan on one thread. Here it is
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...The Aston Martin GT3, which started the race from second position, almost took the lead at the first corner. It drew level with the pole position Audi R8 (No.1) on the approach, but on the outside.
For a couple of laps, the Aston ran strongly in 2nd place, just a few seconds behind the leader. When the leaders encountered the slower cars another R8 (No.4) was able to take second place.
There were a number of yellow flags during the opening laps, due to the inevitable challenging nature of the circuit.
This year the race was started with cars in three batches. The Aston Martin Rapide could be seen, starting in the second batch. Zero emissions eh!
The Aston Martin briefly held the lead, but the positions on lap 15 are now;
1st Audi R8 (No.4)
2nd Audi R8 (No.1) Gap to leader 4.1 seconds.
3rd Aston Martin Vantage GT3 (No.7) Gap to leader 8.3 seconds.

PS: I grew up with 3 brothers, all sports fanatics and still are, one represented the UK in atheletics, they all follow football. However I never have, boxing, rugby, cricket and Motor racing are my bag, all of which are shown in abundance on Sky Sports, Motors TV often shows British GT3 and GT4 events, Le Mans, WEC races etc,,,best VFM going IMHO.

So Rob still can't get enough of all things AM, well then Molly, he must just try harder.
I just wish there was a website where details of all AM racing, WEC, British and European GT3 and GT4 events was listed, to include, time, place and the media coverage available, thats not much to ask, is it Rob.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
