Fuel Filler Cap & Filling
Discussion
Does anyone have a problem with their fuel filler cap release? I pressed mine 3 times today and it didn't do anything. I then went to the boot release lever, and even that took a couple of attempts!
Also, when filling, the pump keeps clicking out as if the car is full, but it's not. I have to fill really slowly otherwise it keeps clicking and stop when I think it's full... anyone else have these issues?

Common problem. Usually happens if you close the fuel cap too firmly.
If it jams, the trick is to wedge in a credit card or similar before you press the button.
I think you wedge it in, into the north west edge of the cap but cant remember for sure.
Ever since, I have always closed the cap delicately and problem has not returned.
No idea on the clicking?

The cutting out happened to me today. I just pulled the nozzle out an inch and it was fine. Also, when filling, the pump keeps clicking out as if the car is full, but it's not. I have to fill really slowly otherwise it keeps clicking and stop when I think it's full... anyone else have these issues?
I've had both these problems on my 09 DB9 Volante. Not sure why the fuel cut out kicks in early, intermittent issue but it sometimes tells me it is full when it is only three quarters full. A right pain.
In my case the fuel filler cap release problem was eventually traced to a plastic clip that holds the release cable in place near the manual release behind the trim in the left hand side of the boot. Initially it had cracked and release was intermittent. I was also told to close it gently, use a credit card etc etc, but eventually the clip broke in two, and the release catch was simply not functioning, whether using the button or the manual release in the boot. Changing the clip did the trick. Part probably costs 50p - fitting no idea as it was under warranty. (In fact it went on the last day of the car's three year warranty!)

Yes, I think its to do with the angle of the tube down to the fuel tank. Try rotating the pump around a bit - There is a certain angle about 45degrees to the left from bottom where it flows much better and doesn't trigger to click off.V8V - no problem with cap release. However, same problem with nozzle clicking out while tank not yet full. Problem was unintentionally solved with the broken small flap, located in the center of the filler neck, you usually push down with the nozzle, which went its way down the tank while refuelling. So, carefully remove the small flap with long-nosed pliers - provided it is still there. Then any trapped air can easier escape from the tank and filling up is no longer a problem. By the way, all new AM models and even filler neck spare part don't have the small flap anymore, but the tube is completely open.

I had a slightly different problem with my fuel filler cap - the cast aluminum door warped slightly, and the bottom of the door snagged on the bodywork.
The creditcard solution still worked, I just had to wedge it in the bottom of the door.
Dealer fixed it for free, and it's been fine since.
